Coming out of Wednesday’s NXT and AEW Dynamite programs, both shows are peaking for big shows on December 18th, which will be their final live shows of 2019.
For AEW, the December 18th show from Corpus Christi, Texas will feature Chris Jericho taking on Jungle Boy.
On the same night, NXT will have Adam Cole defending the NXT title against the winner of next week’s triple threat match involving Keith Lee, Tommaso Ciampa, and Finn Balor. Plus, Shayna Baszler will defend the NXT women’s title on the same show against Rhea Ripley.
Next week’s shows will feature the following matches from each:
AEW on December 11th from Garland, Texas:
*The Young Bucks vs. Santana & Ortiz in a Texas Street Fight
*Cody & QT Marshall vs. The Butcher & The Blade
NXT on December 11th:
*Tommaso Ciampa vs. Finn Balor vs. Keith Lee in a #1 contender’s match
*Lio Rush vs. Angel Garza for the Cruiserweight title
*Dakota Kai vs. Mia Yim
AEW on December 18th from Corpus Christi, Texas:
*Chris Jericho vs. Jungle Boy
NXT on December 18th:
*Adam Cole vs. TBA for the NXT title
*Shayna Baszler vs. Rhea Ripley for the NXT women’s title
Being totally unbiased here but it seems like AEW is giving up these two weeks unless they add more.
Shayna probably loses her year long title reign and Adam cole vs either of those three is a PPV level match.
Jericho vs jungle boy is not
I see less giving up and more “not competing” and doing what they should do and building their talent and own programs. I don’t want them to see the 18th card and go: “ok we need to book Mox vs Jericho Dec 18th, Statlander takes the women’s title, and have Proud and Powerful challenge for the Tag titles.”
AEW does not have the roster depth to run through big match-ups to counter program NXT. That is not a long term winning strategy for them, they need to build characters that people care about.
I like AEW giving title matches to lesser known guys. Try to give them a spot light to shine more.

NXT doesn’t have to sell tickets or PPVs so they can more easily blow off these kinds of matches.

True but they also have access to way more talent. So if things get stale they can push someone else to the top, or call someone “down”. AEW has what they have and if they run through all the big matches they need to go sign more guys. So they need to build more slowly and invest in their young guys. Which is what they should do. Honestly AEW money wise doesn’t need to sell PPVs either, the TV deal will be their money maker long term.
