Wednesday’s cable ratings are in with AEW edging out NXT in overall viewers as well the coveted 18-49 demographic.

With total viewers, it was the closest race to date with AEW averaging 851,000 viewers on TNT and NXT attracting 845,000 on the USA Network. AEW was up 28% while NXT grew 4% from last week’s episodes on the eve of U.S. Thanksgiving.

Among the key demos, every category was up for each show except NXT’s over 50 audience, which fell 5% while AEW grew 24% in that category.

NXT won three demos in total. Aside from adults over 50, which they dominate in, they won with people 18-34 and females 12-34 edging past AEW by 0.01 in both.

In the 18-49 demo, AEW did a 0.32 that was up 23% from last week but still down 18% from the November 20th episode. NXT did a 0.29 in the demo, up 21% from last week and down 3% from November 20th.

AEW saw big increases with males 12-34 up 47% from last week and people 25-54 up 25%.

NXT’s had huge increases with females 12-34 up 71% from last week and people 18-34 up 66%.

It was a mixed bag for AEW as they were up from last week but down in each category except adults over 50 from two weeks ago so they didn’t recover the total audience that tuned out last week.

Here is a breakdown of all the demos and we’ll provide comparisons to both last week’s numbers and the shows from two weeks ago:

NXT won 18-34 so they actually won. (Or are we not using that argument this week…?)

No. The argument was 18-49, which AEW won. So yeah, MASSIVE win again for AEW

AEW needing the 35-49 crowd. 50 is too old but the 49 year olds are key viewers. SMH. Need to do better with the young 18-34 adults.

You can shake your head all you want at the (admitted) absurdity of the demographics, but that’s what the network executives want.

I would disagree with something John said on the Hangout about the bounce back for AEW can’t just be Young people took the night off. American Thanksgiving eve is the worst travel day of the year, it’s not an excuse but I think it was a factor
