AEW Dynamite slides in viewership, ranks behind Republican debate

AEW Dynamite fell to its lowest 18-49 audience since June as it heads into its pay-per-view weekend.

The September 27 episode from Broomfield, Colorado averaged 855,000 viewers and 365,000 (0.28) in the 18-49 demographic, per Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics and Spoiler TV.

The show ranked third among cable originals behind Fox News’ coverage of the Republican debate and Sean Hannity that followed the debate. Dynamite aired against the second hour of the debate with Fox News averaging 6,693,000 viewers for the two-hour debate.

It is worth noting that the TBS feed in the U.S. was affected by transmission issues during the second hour which were enough of an issue that Tony Khan issued an apology for the technical problems after the broadcast.

Dynamite fell 13% in viewership and dropped 22% in the 18-49 demographic – Dynamite’s lowest demo figure since June 28.

In the 18-49 demo, males decreased from 323,000 to 253,000 and females fell from 146,000 to 113,000.

Adults 18-34 experienced a 25% decline from last week to 129,000 viewers and was its lowest audience in that demo since March 15.

Adults 35-49 were down by 21% to 236,000.

Wrestlenomics reports that the high point of the show was from 9 – 9:15 p.m. ET for the MJF and Jay White promo segment and sit-down interview with Christian and Darby Allin at 943,000 viewers and 404,000 in the demo.

In Canada, Dynamite averaged 90,600 viewers and 47,700 in the 25-54 demographic on TSN 2, which represented increases of 18% and 27% respectively from the previous week. Dynamite ranked #10 among sports programs on Wednesday, which were led by the Toronto Blue Jays vs. New York Yankees and a pair of NHL pre-season games.
