It was believed that it would present a difficult challenge for AEW to combat the NBA game between the Boston Celtics and Golden State Warriors averaging 11,522,000 viewers and 3.65 rating in 18-49 on ABC, which dominated television on Wednesday.
AEW did sustain a 15 percent loss in its 18-49 demo from last week’s show, but that was enough to beat all cable – topping ESPN’s College Softball World Series coverage, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, and ESPN’s NBA pre-game coverage for the top spot on cable.
Dynamite also fell 20 percent among adults 18-34 but saw an interesting result among the 18-49 audience. Within the key demo, males dropped 19 percent from the previous week while females were identical.
In overall viewers, Dynamite only fell by three percent from last week and a gain assisted that among adults 50+, which grew from 0.34 to 0.37 this week.
Excluding last week, this would be Dynamite’s highest overall viewership since April 13th prior to the playoffs beginning. The 18-49 demo was Dynamite’s lowest audience since May 4th and the third lowest in 2022.
In Canada, the show averaged 102,000 viewers with 49,900 in the 25-54 demographic on TSN 2. They ranked #8 among sports programming in overall viewers but were #4 in the demo. Dynamite increased 36 percent in overall viewers from last week’s show.
Dynamite was promoted around the Casino Battle Royale and the winner faced Jon Moxley in the main event. Moxley defeated Kyle O’Reilly on the show to advance to Forbidden Door to wrestle for the interim AEW Championship.
