AEW Dynamite – “Fight for the Fallen”

Commentary: Jim Ross, Excalibur & Taz
AEW Interim World Championship: Jon Moxley (c) vs. Rush (w/ Jose the Assistant)
Jim Ross is back doing commentary for the first hour, but Taz joins them instead of Tony Schiavone. William Regal joined commentary for this match. Rush attacks Jon Moxley before the bell rings and tosses him around the ring. Rush takes Moxley inside and continues to stay in control with splashes in the ring before holding Moxley down while biting his forehead. Rush takes Moxley back outside, tossing him around as Moxley is already bleeding from the forehead. As Jose the Assistant distracts the referee, Rush tries to use a chair but Moxley is able to dodge it, running inside to hit a tope suicida on Rush. Regal mentions how his former employer wouldn’t hire Rush because he is too violent. Rush continues the assault on the outside and chokes out Moxley with a cable as they go to picture-in-picture.
When we come back, Moxley hits a superplex to Rush before they start trading punches and chops. They go into suplexes before Moxley knocks Rush down with a lariat, but Rush comes right back with a snap German suplex. Moxley escapes out of a submission and starts stomping the face of Rush, but Rush comes back with a belly-to-belly suplex knocking Moxley into the turnbuckles. They go to the top rope, but Moxley bites Rush off. As Jose distracts the referee, Andrade El Idolo runs out and knocks Moxley off the top rope. The Lucha Brothers with Alex Abrahantes run out and chase Andrade and Jose away into the crowd. They go back and forth until Rush hits a piledriver for a two count. Rush goes for his dropkick in the corner, but Moxley gets out of the way and puts on a choke hold, which Rush headbutts his way out of. Moxley comes right back with the Death Rider, but Rush kicks out. Moxley puts on the Bulldog Choke right away as Rush submits.
Winner: Jon Moxley by submission at 13:55, to retain
Trios Tournament
Excalibur announces the AEW World Trios Championship Tournament that’s coming soon at AEW All Out on September 4th.
Tay Meet Skye
Tony Schiavone is backstage with Dante Martin who says he knows Sammy Guevara will have Tay Conti in this corner tonight so says he will have Skye Blue in his corner.
FTW Championship: Ricky Starks (c) vs. Danhausen
Before Ricky Starks comes out, we get a well produced video for him. Right away Danhausen goes to curse Starks, but instead mocks Starks pose and gets kicked down. Starks then teases the curse but poses as Danhausen kicks him and takes him down with a Northern Lights Suplex for a two count. Danhausen dodges the spear and rolls up Starks for a two but Starks comes right back with the spear for the pin and the win.
Winner: Ricky Starks by pinfall at 1:31, to retain
Starks grabs the mic and says ‘very nice, very evil’ but he’s not absolute and just like last week he still got a little bit left in the tank and says to bring out another challenger and that he’s for real this time. Hook comes out to a big pop.
FTW Championship: Ricky Starks (c) vs. Hook
Commentary mentions how Hook has on orange trunks for the first time, and Taz says how it feels surreal to him. Hook goes right for the body shots right away, taking Starks into the corner before hitting a pump handle suplex. Starks comes back with a back body drop, before hitting the spear on Hook. Starks goes for the Rochambeau but Hook counters into the Red Rum as Starks taps out.
Winner: Hook by submission at 1:33, to become NEW FTW Champion
Hook and Starks show respect after the match as Taz says he can’t believe it.
String of Bad Luck
After the commercial, Tony Schiavone is in the ring with Ricky Starks and Powerhouse Hobbs and asks Starks for his reaction. Starks says he is no stranger to losing and he’s okay with that, and he turned that title from a noose to a tie and turned leather into gold and brought it back into prominence. He deserves to be here for more than 40 seconds and there’s people backstage who tell him to be patient and wait his turn, and he doesn’t want to hear that anymore and his Goddamn time is right now. This isn’t a string of bad luck but a string of bad timing, before he can finish Hobbs attacks Starks from behind with a forearm to the neck followed by a spinebuster.
Trash Boys
The Acclaimed are backstage as Max Caster says they roasted the ‘Ass Boys’ last week in a rap battle and this week they will do it again just to be jerks about it and they will have to watch their music video to find out what kind of match they are having. Anthony Bowens tells them to bring all their ‘ass’ related items as on Rampage this week they are taking out the trash boys.
Sammy Guevara (w/ Tay Conti) vs. Dante Martin (w/ Skye Blue)
They start the match running the ropes before Sammy Guevara takes Dante Martin down with a dropkick and starts breakdancing in the ring as Tay Conti is laughing. Guevara sends Martin to the outside, but Martin dodges him, hits him with a kick and teases leaping to the outside, just to land back in his face as Guevara seems stunned and starts to leave with Tay. They start fighting on the stage where Martin leaps off the stage onto Guevara on the side, before they go to picture-in-picture.
When we come back, Martin sends Guevara to the outside where Martin tries to leap on him and gets stopped with a super kick. Back inside, Guevara hits a standing Spanish Fly for a two count. They go back and forth, bouncing off the ropes and trading pin attempts. Guevara tries to stop the Nose Dive, but Martin lands on his feet and hits a standing Spanish Fly for a two count. Tay starts talking trash to Martin, distracting him as Martin misses the Nose Dive. Guevara comes back with a springboard cutter and hits GTH for the pin.
Winner: Sammy Guevara by pinfall at 8:49
Guevara keeps stomping Martin after the match and goes to the top rope, but Skye Blue gets in the ring to try and stop him. Tay Conti gets in Blue’s face, as Anna Jay runs in and attacks Blue from behind. Tay and Jay continue to beat on Blue before Ruby Soho, Eddie Kingston and Ortiz run out for the save, chasing the Jericho Appreciation Society out of the ring.
The Greatest Technical Sports Entertainer Ever
We go to Tony Schiavone with Daniel Garcia backstage and say it could be one of Garcia’s biggest nights of his life. Garcia says he hasn’t heard Bryan Danielson’s name in months and he’s probably been gardening with his wife. Garcia says he’s sharp and he’ll send Danielson to vacation with his family and they’ll be calling Garcia ‘The greatest technical sports entertainer ever’.
We Can Dance
We go to Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, and Satnam Singh. Lethal says Samoa Joe cheated and they have unfinished business with the Best Friends. Chuck Taylor, Trent Beretta, and Orange Cassidy come into the picture and say they can dance this Friday on Rampage and Dutt agrees to the match and is mad that Lethal and Singh didn’t stop him.
Jungle Boy’s Secrets
Tony Schiavone is in the ring and introduces Jungle Boy, who after a couple seconds is followed by Luchasaurus. Schiavone says after weeks of disparaging remarks by Christian Cage it’s time for Jungle Boy to respond. Jungle Boy calls Cage the biggest pussy he’s ever met in his entire laugh to a huge reaction. Boy keeps cursing and says this is the most relevant Cage has been in his career but when he came back, Cage tucked his tail and ran. Boy says for someone who’s been wrestling as long as Cage has, the battle royal elimination shouldn’t have been that big of a deal and mentions how Cage was mad because he lost out the winning bonus and he’s strapped for cash because his wife had just divorced him. Schiavone asks what Luchasaurus was doing, as Jungle Boy mentions Cage’s turtleneck and small package being the reason his wife left him and what Cage didn’t realize was that Luchasaurus was just protecting Cage so nobody would get their hands on Cage, before Jungle Boy.
Jungle Boy says he can take whatever from Cage including chair shots and mentions how three years ago he was standing in a dirt hole with his Uncle Dave and a shovel and talks about burying his father as Christian Cage is backstage and interrupts him. Cage says Luchasaurus threw away his future to remain Jungle Boy’s lap dog and the reason he ran away was that he was scared of what he would do to Jungle Boy if he stayed and he will drape him with a body bag next. Cage says Jungle Boy can cozy up beside his dad and he might have the monster, but Cage has the advantage and Jungle Boy told him all his secrets and now he’s going to pray on his weakness.
Third Wheel
Brandon Cutler is backstage with the Young Bucks and informs them about the Trios Tournament and mentions how he’d be a great third wheel but the Bucks brush off that idea and run into Adam Page. They exchange birthday congratulations and Matt Jackson starts talking about how he’s been meaning to tell him how he feels but the Dark Order interrupts. The Bucks start walking away as Cutler says that was awkward and they tell him to cut the camera off.
Tony Nese & Mark Sterling vs. Swerve Strickland
Tony Nese and Swerve Strickland start the match, as Mark Sterling stands outside the ring and we see Keith Lee backstage watching on. Swerve goes outside to get into Sterling’s face, but Nese stops him. Swerve snaps Nese’s arm on the rope before Sterling goes and grabs Swerve’s arm giving Nese the opportunity to take out Swerve as they go to picture-in-picture.
When we come back, Swerve kicks Nese back into Sterling as the referee says that counts as a tag. Swerve knocks Nese down with a right hand, hits a back elbow and a diving uppercut. Swerve and Nese start fighting on the apron, where Swerve superkicks him down and hits him with a diving stomp. Swerve starts chasing Sterling around the ring, before they meet inside. Nese tries to stop Swerve but it’s too late, as Swerve hits his kick on Sterling for the pin.
Winner: Swerve Strickland by pinfall at 6:44
We cut to Keith Lee who is knocked out, as the camera pans up to show it’s Josh Woods that took him out. Back inside the ring, Tony Nese lays out Swerve Strickland.
Balancing Out the Uneven
We get a video from the House of Black where Malakai Black speaks to Miro and how God and the Devil are the same things and what he calls redeeming he calls balancing out the uneven. Black says Miro spent his life worshipping the throne and everyone will kneel to him. Brody King starts talking about Darby Allin and his tattoo on his chest and says he attacked him in public because he can and it’s not going to stop until his casket drops and challenges Darby to a coffin match and asks what kind of flowers he wants on his headstone.
AEW Women’s World Championship: Thunder Rosa (c) vs. Miyu Yamashita
They start right away trading near falls, before Thunder Rosa and Miyu Yamashita have a staredown. Rosa traps Miyu in the ropes, but Miyu escapes and sweeps Rosa off and to the outside where she dives, but Rosa moves out of the way and hits her with a dropkick. Miyu takes control as they go into a picture-in-picture.
When we come back, Rosa is in control and places Miyu on the middle rope and hits her with a dropkick to the back followed by another running kick and a Northern Lights Suplex for a two count. Rosa goes to the top rope, but Miyu kicks her off. They start trading punches and kicks before Miyu hits a German Suplex for a two count. Rosa ducks a kick, before Miyu hits a pair of kicks but Rosa grabs the ropes right before the three count. Miyu picks Rosa up, but Rosa turns it into a roll-up attempt that they go back and forth on. Miyu hits two more kicks, but Rosa hits a pair of knees. Rosa hits another kick followed by the Fire Thunder Driver for the pin and the win.
Winner: Thunder Rosa by pinfall at 10:02, to retain

Bryan Danielson vs. Daniel Garcia
Chris Jericho joins commentary for this match. Bryan Danielson attacks Daniel Garcia right away and takes him to the outside where he hits him with a tope suicide. They go back inside where Danielson mounts him with punches, but Garcia comes right back with uppercuts. They take it back to the outside where Garcia pulls off the padding. They go back and forth with elbows before Danielson places Garcia onto a chair and hits him with kicks and a running drop kick. Back inside, Danielson hits a massive dropkick but doesn’t get up as a result. Garcia takes advantage and starts mounting him with elbows. Danielson comes right back, but as he runs the ropes he collapses down. They head outside where Garcia hits Danielson with a DDT on the concrete as they go to picture-in-picture.
When we come back, Danielson is bleeding from the forehead and tries for a comeback but keeps falling. They head to the top rope where Garcia bites Danielson’s head followed by Danielson hitting a back suplex off the top ropes as they are both laid out. They start trading chops before Danielson takes Garcia down with a kick to the side of the head. Garcia quickly counters Danielson into a sleeper hold, but Danielson turns it into Cattle Mutilation followed by a Tiger Suplex for a two count. Garcia lands elbows down, but Danielson gets out and hits elbows himself followed by the Shoulder Capture Suplex for a two count. Garcia comes back and tries a Sharpshooter, but Danielson reverses for a two count with a roll-up. Danielson comes back with the Busaiku Knee and gets a two count as he is trying to continue a mystery hand goes and grabs Danielson from under the ring, distracting him long enough for Garcia to put on the Sharpshooter as Danielson passes out.
Winner: Daniel Garcia by referee stoppage at 17:14
It’s revealed the person under the ring was Jake Hager, as he joins Garcia in the ring along with Chris Jericho.
