There was no shortage of news coming out of AEW’s Double or Nothing event, which has received lots of praise with the majority for the Stadium Stampede that closed the show and was as elaborate a production as the company has ever embarked on. Our AEW Double or Nothing POST Show is up on the site with Wai Ting and I reviewing the card, as well as speaking with WH Park on the passing of Hana Kimura.
**Brian Cage made his AEW debut as the mystery participant in the Casino Ladder Match that he won for a future AEW title shot. On the post-show conference call, Tony Khan stated Jon Moxley would defend the AEW title against Cage at Fyter Fest. The date of that show will be revealed this Wednesday. Cage underwent biceps surgery earlier this year and it had been reported in January by Steve Bryant at So Cal Uncensored that Cage was head for AEW. Khan added that this year’s Fyter Fest was originally to take place in London, England but those plans are out due to the pandemic.
**On the pay-per-view, they said the ‘All Out’ pay-per-view will take place on Saturday, September 5th but no location was announced.
**During the broadcast, Dr. Michael Sampson stated Britt Baker sustained a partial tear of her LCL, an interior tibia fracture, along with a small tendon tear. During the post-show media Q&A, Khan said she is expected to miss six to eight weeks of action. Baker was pulled from her match with Kris Statlander at Double or Nothing due to the injury that occurred in a tag match on Dynamite this past week. Statlander and Hikaru Shida hoisted Nyla Rose onto their shoulders and dropped her onto Baker, who was seated in the corner and she came down badly on Baker’s right knee prompting officials to take Baker out of the match.
**The one title change on the show featured Hikaru Shida defeating Nyla Rose for the AEW women’s title. Rose had held the title since February 12th when she beat Riho in Austin, Texas.
**Cody became the first TNT champion after pinning Lance Archer with two Cross Rhodes after avoiding the Blackout. Mike Tyson presented the title to Cody but didn’t do anything physical during the match other than blocking Jake Roberts from getting involved with the snake near the end.
**Best Friends are the next contenders for the AEW tag titles after defeating Private Part on the Buy-In pre-show. The match featured a G9 from Private Party as a tribute to the late Shad Gaspard.
**Vitor Belfort, Vickie Guerrero & Dan Lambert were among those in the crowd throughout the show.
