AEW tops NXT in all of the key demographics

Wednesday’s head-to-head contest between AEW and NXT saw each program slide in their viewership, but it was a clean sweep for Dynamite in all the key demographics.

AEW Dynamite was down 3% in total viewership with 865,000 viewers for a show promoted around the 30-minute Ironman match between Kenny Omega and PAC. It was AEW’s third-lowest viewership average of 2020.

NXT countered with a high-profile match involving Charlotte Flair and Bianca Belair. The show dropped 10% from last week with 717,000 viewers.

The major sports competition came from the NBA with the Memphis vs. Houston game doing 940,000 viewers on TNT and was fourth on the night among cable programming.

In the 18-49 demo, AEW topped NXT by a margin of 0.30 to 0.23. It was also the first time AEW topped NXT in the over fifty demo for a live head-to-head show.

The demographic with the largest swing was women 12-34 where AEW did a 0.13, which was up 62.5% from last week while NXT did a 0.06 that represented a drop of 57%. This was the same demo that saw strong growth throughout Monday’s episode of Raw gaining 39% from the first hour to the third.

AEW was also pumped up by its 18-49 female audience and adults 18-34 that were each up 17%.

NXT was hurt big sizable drops among adults 18-34 down 32%, men 12-34 dropping 26% and women 18-49 declining 22%.

TNT aired a one-hour countdown special for the AEW Revolution pay-per-view immediately after Dynamite and it did 383,000 viewers in that slot.
