AEW US TV right renewal rumours

I wonder if if FSN is interested. I have a hard time seeing AEW on prime time Fox TV. Amazing if they could pull that off and personally I would love it, but assuming it’s prime time, that is a hard time slot to get.

Yeah, I don’t think “regular” Fox makes much sense. Forget everything you know about wrestling. Replacing SmackDown with Dynamite would be business malpractice based on the ratings.

But who knows? The price tags would also be very different, so maybe it would be worth it.

I’d assume something with either FS1, or perhaps Tubi.

Forget Tubi - Quibi’s where the action is.

If this topic interests you (I know it doesn’t necessarily interest most!)… Give the first twenty minutes or so of this a watch.

Andrew goes through all the latest - and addresses the FOX / network story.

I’m glad that the info coming out now seems to be based in fact, but this is brutal. :joy:

I hope there’s a big reveal still to come, because the excitement of this announcement (which is very positive, if the above is accurate) has been killed by 1,000 paper cuts for a lot of the people who are interested in this kind of thing.

Is 170 mil per year for all their shows or just dynamite?

I if it’s total, I no idea if this is good or bad. I know WWE got 500mil per year for Smackdown from FOX, but that’s also an established brand that’s been around for 20 years which is unfair to compare it to.

Would this be considered a win for AEW based on expectation?

They were getting 70M a year for Dynamite, Collision, Rampage, and BotB.

$100M additionally is a huge increase.

They’re able to get additional programming on non-WBD Networks, which equals another potentially big payday.

And, allegedly there is more to the MAX deal.

For perspective WWE only got something comparable about a decade ago…

170 is a huge win. Should even momentarily shut up the naysayers for a few weeks lol

Just wait. A bunch of internet wrestling experts are all getting degrees in applied mathematics right now so they can tell us why it’s not good.

It’s already started. The goalposts will always move for AEW for some folks.

Honestly, it goes both ways. It sounds good like a great deal, but in reality it’s all relative to AEW’s expenses. Anyone who claims this is “good” or
“Bad” for the company is either completely guessing, or they know AEW’s financials and just aren’t sharing that info.

Again, It sounds like a good deal though, hopefully this stabilizes the company for decades to come.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like they got a good deal. Factoring in inflation, I believe that is equivalent to about half of what WWE got in 2013, and conferring they are 4 years in, that’s pretty impressive.

But you’ve also got to take into account the very different landscape that is cable today vs what it was ten years ago.

Regardless, it’s a very good deal and major rights increase. The company was apparently within 10-20M within breaking even after operational costs in the last year.

And considering they could cross over 200M total a year with a potential additional non-WBD deal… They’re in a great position.

I don’t remember where I heard/read it first, but that’s the biggest thing that “the Internet” doesn’t want to acknowledge. It’s not about what the ratings are compared to three years ago. It’s about what the ratings are compared to other shows on TV right now.

And while I can’t talk intelligently, nor do I care other than curiosity, as to what the price point should be, there are plenty of numbers that say pretty much all WWE and AEW programming is doing just fine compared to everything except live sports.

If that is true, which for the record I do believe you, that’s that’s an excellent deal.

Wrestling is such a weird industry. It makes total sense that as fans we want all the promotions we enjoy be healthy, but can you imagine an NFL fan bragging to an NHL fans about the contract that the NFL just signed for Thursday Night Football and mocking the NHL fans because HTIC is not getting as much. Or a fan of say Survivor bragging that Survivor got renewed for a two more seasons and how the showrunners are making more money then previous year. Or fans of say Survivor bragging that Big Brother can’t pull the same numbers as Survivor? None of this would EVER happen lol, only in the wrestling world.

The only other entertainment avenue I can think of is maybe comic book fans bragging about opening weekend sales or total sales (ie. my favourite movie is #1 this year).

Wrestling fandom is just such a weird place.
