I think it’s just percentages though. Like wrestling doesn’t have that big of fan base, even their biggest show on network TV only Drew like 2 million viewers.
So percentage wise there’s still a lot of people who are tribal. Something like DC or Marvel or Star Wars has Billions of fans so the percentage that are tribal is less.
This has nothing to do with the general TV rights renewal but something I wish. AEW Shockwave on FS1 becomes a sports program, in that the Continental Classic is featured only on Shockwave.
My idea came about when listening to the Poisonrana show and them talking about a women’s Continental Classic. Basically, Shockwave would featire the round robin tournaments throughout the year. So with that, I would beef up the field from 12 to 20 and after that ends, go to the Women’s version. Than a tag team one and than maybe a single elimination tournament for trios, aka my dream, the King of Trios. Essentially, you create a sports league.
Something about how lowkey Dark was I really enjoyed. Didn’t try to sell itself as anything more than what it was. And also made some pretty cool midcard matches and had some brief fun import appearances on it.
I loved it so much, also the fact that each episode was obnoxiously long, like 2+ hours every week of basically squash matches. I don’t know how they got away with it. Washing dishes and watching snippets of Dark every day was choice. Would love to have it back, especially if we can get Nigel on commentary with Excalibur and Taz.
150 mil per year is a hell of a get for them. Congrats to everyone involved. And finally the MAX component is added and the entire archive is accessible. Little bummed the PPVs wont be free alongside it but hope it wont be high of a rate.
