Last week in the finals of the 2021 Champion Carnival tournament, Jake Lee defeated 2019 winner Kento Miyahara to win his first Champion Carnival. With that win, Lee earned himself a shot at the AJPW Triple Crown Heavyweight Championship which is currently in Suwama’s possession.

That match was going to take place on May 16th at the ‘Champions Night’ show, but due certain areas of Japan being in a state of emergency because of a rise in COVID cases, All Japan postponed their Champions Night show until June 26th.

The Champion Carnival final was held at Korakuen Hall with no fans in the stands. AJPW is going to run their May 19th show as planned but there will be no fans in attendance.

Suwama has been reigning as Triple Crown Heavyweight Champion since March of 2020. This was Jake Lee’s second visit to the Champion Carnival final and his first loss was to Miyahara, who he defeated this go-around.
