Alundra Blayze 'almost got held back' from WWE Evolution

More on the story will be in Blayze’s book.

Joining the 38th edition of the Café De René livestream was WWE Hall of Famer Alundra Blayze (Madusa). Alundra last wrestled back in 2018 when she competed in a Battle Royal at the Evolution pay-per-view.

As she was promoting her book, she mentioned that there’s a story in there about her almost being ‘held back’ from Evolution. She did not elaborate and said people will have to read the book to find out of the rest of the story.

It’s amazing [WWE Evolution] and it was so cool to be a part of that. So that was actually my first comeback in the ring since I retired, right? Basically, and there’s a great story to that in my book. Oh sh*t! Wait until you guys read it. It’s a good one. I wasn’t gonna go… It’s not that I wasn’t gonna go. I was already there. But, I almost got held back and there’s a story in the book about that.

In 2015, Blayze was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. She was asked if she’d like to see Melina and/or Lisa Marie Varon inducted in 2023.

She said she cannot choose between the two and went on to question why more than one woman isn’t inducted each year. The Bella Twins (Nikki & Brie Bella) were inducted as a duo but Blayze is referring to separate female acts being inducted individually. That has never happened for any of WWE’s Hall of Fame classes.

So, I mean both [Melina & Lisa Marie Varon] are so well deserving [of being in the WWE Hall of Fame]. Oh my gosh, Melina has the greatest story and she had me in tears and she said watching me and wrestling and stuff that I was the reason she wanted to become a wrestler so I mean, my heart is there and Victoria, how can you not? Victoria deserves it more than anybody. She should have been in there a couple, you know, ago and Victoria is so talented. So, so talented. So, I mean I can’t [pick which one should go in-in 2023]. There’s no favorites. Can I ask you guys out there something? Why is there only one woman going in at the Hall of Fame?

There is Miss Elizabeth and there is this and this. But a lot of that has to do with legality so we don’t know. Whenever, whatever. But, it’s not that we don’t want her nor shouldn’t she. It’s just there’s still irons to work out there and I don’t — you know, we have all these men going in, why can’t we have two women go in at a time? You know how many women out there that still aren’t in there? Leilani Kai and Judy Martin, The Jumping Bomb Angels, what about Bull Nakano? What about all the women before the Attitude Era? We’re just gonna skip over because it’s old?… I don’t know.

Blayze made an appearance on NXT TV as a part of the Iron Survivor Challenge selection committee. Roxanne Perez went on to win the match and defeat Mandy Rose for the NXT Women’s Championship
