The opening match of the 9/23 episode of NXT was a Battle Royal to determine the challenger for Io Shirai’s NXT Women’s Championship at TakeOver on 10/4. The final two competitors in the match were Shotzi Blackheart and Candice LeRae and it was LeRae launching Blackheart off the steps and onto the floor to secure her spot on the TakeOver card.

Candice LeRae and Io Shirai went one-on-one at TakeOver: Toronto in 2019 and just a full year later, they’ll meet at TakeOver once again but with the NXT Women’s Championship on the line.
Earlier today it was announced that Johnny Gargano will be taking on Damian Priest for the North American Championship at TakeOver and by the conclusion of tonight’s NXT, Finn Balor’s opponent for the show will be determined as well.
