Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso have won the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships in the opening match of the Fastlane premium live event.

Finn Balor took the pin by Rhodes after a disastrous intervention by JD McDonagh, who accidentally took out Damian Priest with the Money in the Bank briefcase.

The match was fairly even for the most part but as Jey and Cody started to get the upper hand, Rhea Ripley, Dominik Mysterio and JD McDonagh emerged at ringside.

After McDonagh’s intervention left Priest laying, the babyfaces were able to make short work of Balor and win the belts.

Jey Uso and Cody Rhodes will now be able to appear regularly on both Raw and SmackDown.

The MITB holder getting beat is traditionally step one toward a cash-in later in the night.

Or in this case, the gimmick match specifically designed to leave the champ incapacitated is step one…

Wasn’t this the first time Cody and Jey ever teamed? Lol seems so ridiculous

I don’t even notice most non-singles titles these days. They’re just things to keep singles guys on TV when there’s nothing else for them to do.

I’m never a fan of playing “hot potato” with the belts, But WWE is actually in a decent place in terms of roster to get the belts on the Street Profits or something and revive the tag division a bit. But I have seen no evidence that there is any interest in doing so.
