Coming off the helms of WWE releasing and furloughing a large number of their talents/staff on April 16th, more names that were let go or furloughed from the company are being made public by way of a report or by WWE themselves. The latest name added to that list is former WWE Intercontinental and RAW Tag Team Champion Curtis Axel, real name Joseph Hennig.

WWE has come to terms on the release of Curtis Axel.

WWE wishes him all the best in his future endeavors.

Hennig had been a part of the WWE system since 2007 where he started in Florida Championship Wrestling. During his time with the company, he donned the name “Michael McGillicutty” as a part of The Nexus faction. Hennig went on to have a run with the Intercontinental Championship and was managed by Paul Heyman during that run. Years after that, he formed a duo with Bo Dallas known as “B-Team” and the two went on to become two-time RAW Tag Team Champions.

Hennig’s last match took place on the February 28th episode of SmackDown in Boston where he took on Daniel Bryan. Prior to that, his last TV match was in October of last year.

Hennig joins the likes of Zack Ryder, Kurt Angle, Cain Velasquez, Deonna Purrazzo, Curt Hawkins, Luke Gallows, Karl Anderson, Lio Rush, MJ Jenkins and many others who were either released or furloughed from the WWE over the past two weeks.

I’m still waiting for the genesis of McGillicutty.

It’s starting this moment… from now… from this moment on… this will be the moment… starting now

They really seem to be cutting the guys they have not been using at all. I have to wonder if Bo Dallas would have been cut as well if not for his brother and Dad.

His daddy (Mike Rotunda) got furloughed so I don’t think hes safe

You never know, but once the pandemic is over I think he will be back. The term means to temporarily lay off workers.
