Including today’s installment, there are only FIVE Dream Slam Weeklies left in 2022. How is it already the end of 2022? As the year winds down, everyone’s already preparing for 2023 with show schedules being released well into January! I’m still recovering from jet lag, but I’m already looking forward to winter vacation and all the wrestling that awaits between now and the New Year. I can’t even call it Wrestle Kingdom Week because as I’ve learned, there is so much wrestling that it’s more like Wrestling New Year!

Earlier this week, I finally managed to catch a World Cup game and saw Japan upset Spain to advance to the knockout stages starting this weekend. It was refreshing to see everyone come together to support Samurai Blue and the craziness surrounding that second goal by Ao Tanaka that was literally a 2.999999999 count from being out. The fans in Japan got a taste of what us Northern and Southern American continents go through when it comes to waking up at zero-dark-thirty and watching sports until the sun rises. Apologies in advance because outside of the normal puro and joshi, there will be lots of World Cup tweeting on the timeline. As the tournament advances over the next few weeks, I hope we can all keep cheering together over both sports… before I’m angry about college football bowl games in January.

Match of the Week: KAWAILD APPLES

Be mindful of the volume and the quality of headphones you use when listening to his because the commentary is great, but the referee (Shinno Hagane) has the softest voice ever alongside a powerful Baliyan Akki on commentary paired with Mei and SAKI really getting into their match. This is just a fun match between Suruga and SAKI. For those unfamiliar with Gatoh Move/ChocoPro, it’s in a very cozy dojo with no ropes and about half the space of a standard wrestling ring. Yes, there is a padded wall and mats on the floor, but it looks like the softest mat and devoid of “the hardest part of the ring.”

Given the space constraints, it has fun, falls county anywhere vibe, but the match is conducted as if it were held in a full-size ring with imaginary ropes and legal use of the wall. I enjoyed it, so I hope you will, too.
