FEEDBACK: AEW Double or Nothing 2024

LIVE Tonight:

A PPV ending after midnight? I don’t care. Not only am I off work tomorrow, but I was very much awake throughout. I thought this PPV really delivered. I can’t name a bad match on the PPV. Anarchy in the Arena was the most insane match I’ve seen from this company, and I’ve seen Hangman Page drink Swerve Strickland’s blood. Darby hitting the Coffin Drop at the end of the first verse of the Final Countdown killed me. Willow and Mone exceeded my expectations, even though I was hoping Willow would retain. Strong win for Swerve. Very good opener. [Literal] Hell of a cage match. MJF’s return was one of the most important things on the card, if not the most important. He has been missed, especially by AEW. A very good and newsworthy event.

Fantastic PPV. Could a match or two have been better served as a Dynamite or Collision main event? Perhaps. But nothing was out of place on this show. The in-ring delivered while they also established a TON moving forward.

Highlight of the night? The flamethrower spot. Pun intended, they caught a lot of heat on Wednesday for using something that they would quote “never actually use.” Well they proved those people wrong with a very safe, yet spectacular spot, that will be talked about for years to come.

Vegas is lucky that it’s a long weekend. Double or Nothing had several standout high points. MJF returned to squash the abysmal devil saga. Mercy/Willow was dope, Copeland/Malakai was wild, Anarchy in the Arena was like a hurricane in a living room and Swerve/Cage got the job done to cement Swerve as world champion (I popped seeing Nana clink the bottles)

A lot of the matches were marred by overbooking and the Owen Cup got added stakes for Wembley with a title shot waiting for the winners (following KOTR’s lead) why wasn’t this case from the start?
