LIVE following AEW Dynamite tonight:
It didn’t feel like the crowd they had was very lively. At times I heard some OTC chants?
Found the Hurt Syndicate and Swerve post-match segment way too predictable. Especially after you had Osprey countering the same trope earlier in the show.
I like Julia Hart videos, but would prefer a character with less spooky ga-ga. Since we know it’s going to lead into a light off, then on reappearing Julia trick.
I’ll repeat what I said last week. More Malakai Black, SINGLES matches and programs. Brody King can handle his own in singles programs, so can Buddy.
What exactly are the active women’s storylines? Because it all feels scattered and incongruent.

Mone vs. Statlander, Mariah May feeling she’s better than everyone as the champion, and Jamie Hayter’s comeback trail are the big ones. We’re bound to get more once Julia Hart and Toni Storm are back in the mix.
My big highlights were that Ospreay/Fletcher promo segment, Swerve Strickland vs. Lio Rush, and the tag team main event. The doubters got silenced for now as Malakai Black and Brody King are Full Gear-bound, challenging for the tag team titles and sharing the ring with the Outrunners. I thought Ospreay and Fletcher did very well. I also liked the more chaotic elements of the Death Riders segment. Moxley didn’t seize the Superstation, but Darby nearly seized their truck before Claudio took him for a swing. The crowd was right to call out Swerve for his mistake in calling their city Stamford. Since he’s not on the PPV for now, maybe Adam Cole could take the day off to get a more natural tan and ditch the terrible spray tan he’s using now.

I loved the pacing of the show tonight with segments bleeding into each other. Most of the matches were great, but I felt the Baker/Ford match slowed the show down a bit. Will Ospreay is a great promo and will probably be seen as one of the best this year. He needs to help Mark Davis with a wardrobe though. Shawn Michaels would tell him to try and dress better for TV. The Julia Hart segment was a bit unrealistic. She’s way too young to have a rotary phone. It’s also a shame Swerve messed up the name of the town as he basically hurt his own segment. The Moxley angle is progressing nicely and it’s also nice to see more than one match scheduled for Collision. Overall, a solid show.

I haven’t gotten to catch up on Dynamite in full for tonight, but I do have a question I wanted to ask John specifically. Sorry Wai.
I really enjoyed the show John posted regarding the Observer HOF and how he elected to fill out his ballot. He mentioned there being a few regions that he abstains from voting on. John, is that something you see changing as you learn more, or do you think you’ll always abstain for the reasons you’ve given? Thanks.
My first time watching Dynamite live in a few months. I quite enjoyed the Ospreay-Fletcher promo segment and Swerve vs Lio Rush. I’m thoroughly enjoying the presentation of the Hurt Syndicate. They feel like the coolest guys on the planet. I also thought the Adam Cole had his best outing since returning from injury. Takeshita is one of the best wrestlers on the planet.
However, I’m not a fan of the main event angle. The promo segment featured another babyface talking about how the belt represents what AEW can and should be. I personally find these spirit of the promotion storylines uninspired at this point.
In addition to finding the premise banal, they keep talking about shaping the company but too many things on the show feel untouched by this angle for me to buy the promos. It’s very tell don’t show and shallow to me.
AEW has done a great job of investing in their characters and really building programs over the last several weeks. Full Gear is a loaded up show, there’s contnuity and progression in the stories and a new focus on promoting upcoming shows which is a welcome change. History has taught us that they won’t smell the fruits of their labor overnight, but if they keep up the consistency, all it takes is one program to get super hot and boost business. Is this an indictment of Jimmy Jacobs since things have really changed since he left?
