FEEDBACK: "Knock at the Cabin" starring Batista

Rewind-A-Wai #171 features a movie review of “Knock at the Cabin” starring Dave Bautista.

This was selected by @POSTmaster and we will release the review on Thursday.

Leave us your feedback and thoughts on the film as well as overall thoughts on Dave Bautista’s acting career and whether this was his best role to date.

Brian in New Jersey, perhaps in driving distance of the titular cabin.

I would consider this one of Dave Bautista’s best performances, but not one of his best movies. I understood what the movie was going for, but the execution of it didn’t jive with me. An after school morality play with a budget and a nice locale. To the movie’s credit, I didn’t know how this whole predicament would unfold. I’m definitely higher on M. Night Shyamalan’s earlier movies than his more recent ones like this.

I thought Bautista’s role was the standout performance, elevating past nearly everything and everyone else. He was definitely the most interesting of the four intruders to me. I might still put this performance slightly behind his collective work as Drax, but ahead of his work in Blade Runner 2049 and the Dune movies. Certainly miles ahead of his role in The Killer’s Game. I remember liking him in Glass Onion a lot too, and I look forward to seeing The Last Showgirl whenever it comes out near me.

One more highlight. As I mentioned in a call last year, this movie was a very local production. A lot of M. Night Shyamalan’s movies have been filmed in the Philadelphia area, and a lot of this movie was filmed within my county in southern New Jersey, within the Pine Barrens region of a township neighboring mine. The diner in the final scene is less than four miles away from my home. I didn’t drive by it while filming was happening, but I had heard the road by the diner was closed off for filming. In the movie, the diner has a fictional name on its roadside sign, but the real name of the diner can be seen in the movie through the windows.

@wai0937 while this movie is one of his best performances, in my opinion Dave Bautista‘s best acting is in Blade Runner 2049, all be it brief he really shows a compelling character.

It was the first time I realised he wasn’t just another “Miz”, “Stone Cold”, etc and actually had acting ability.

Since it’s short (especially at 2x) I have left a YouTube link, if you & John have the opportunity it would be great if you could give it a quick watch and decide for yourselves.

There is also a bonus short on YouTube that I think was released as part of the movies marketing campaign but it’s not necessary viewing.
