The Windy City’s very own Jake here!

The Miz’s promo was excellent, and I think he made a better case for his current character here than Shane did last week. I’m still left feeling that both men might be slightly miscast, but Miz did a nice job establishing himself as a grinder who has had to scratch and claw for all of his accomplishments.

I might be in the minority in this but, the execution of this Kofi story has been really compelling. But, of course, that’s a completely cold take given that it’s the same story that’s produced every massively over WWE babyface since I was growing up, just like Daniel Bryan’s chase to the gold in 2014. It ain’t rocket science.

7/10

WHAT AN ICONIC VICTORY. For weeks now, we’ve known the Iconic’s were far superior to the Boss/Hug. This show gets a 10 from me. Kofi and KO are cool and stuff too.

In all seriousness, having a great gauntlet match that the fans are invested in only to swerve at the end felt very WCW bro. Just let Kingston have the damn moment. This 55 minute gauntlet match I just watched ultimately means nothing. Kind of killed your gimmick there tonight Vince.

Brandon from Oshawa

It’s funny, because I came here after Fastlane and defended the WWE and their booking of Kofi against The Bar, while so many other people were trashing it. Now here we are today and people enjoyed the gauntlet, while I am in the minority and absolutely hated it. I could accept 2 guys beating down Kofi and doing Vinces dirty work. It is not at all believable that Kofi would beat those 5 guys, with no help at all. I would have been fine with 2, even 3 maybe, but they just had to go into overkill…and then that still isnt enough. I’m nearly over this Kofi push. If they dont give him the shot next week, I’m done with it.

Question about the G1 Supercard, do you know if it will be like a regular New Japan event shown on NJPW World, where you can watch it right after it has been on live? Or will it be delayed a bit like some of the other shows they put up?

Rich in Winnipeg.
The gauntlet match was booked okay, but when you saw Rowan in the Third spot, and Orton on last and done 7 minutes before the end of the show, you knew something was up. The problem I have with this is that now, your title program is officially only going to have a one program lead in to Mania, and that is something they have had issues with in the past. How they are going to set up Kofi Vs Bryan is still a mystery, but you think The Miz’s promo might lead us to a beat down of Vince in exchange for a Kofi title shot. And yes, we now see a grown-up Dominic, who yes, could be mistaken for Rey’s uncle. Otherwise, a decent show with a great promo by Miz. An 8 out of 10.

I only got to watch the Gauntlet match, but that was the story of the show. It was a great showing, but I think certain points were a little too much. Rowan slams him through a table and Joe chokes him out, and he’s still able to continue. I thought Randy Orton was gonna pull a gun on Kofi, shoot him, and then Kofi would kick out just before the three count. Other then that, it was great to give him some wins over people and Bryan swoops in and picks up the scraps. 8 out of 10 for that match, I’m glad Kofi is getting the push.

Jalen from Pickering,

Kofi got screwed, his foot was under the rope! Good stuff WWE, no one watching the Rumble would’ve guessed that Bryan vs Kingston would’ve been the best built title program. The stories being built on SmackDown are well done, it’s just unfortunate that it’s being built towards a 17 match card. Lord help us all m

Boy, Peyton Royce really looked green in the ring… she really struggled to run the ropes, it even threw Bayley and Sasha off. Weak looking win, I’m not looking forward to seeing them compete at Mania. Gauntlet match was not nearly as good as the last one. Felt like the crowd wasn’t into it, for the most part. Could have benefited from the ring announcer calling falls, or at least the DQs…Rowan and Joe just kind of ended and left with no crowe heat, the crowd didn’t seem to know what to do. A good performance from Kofi, though, and I liked the extra touch of the tag teams supporting him in the back. There was also a cool shot during the table spot, Rowan didn’t clear the monitors, so when Kofi landed, one was right next to his head and still on… made for a brief, but cool looking double shot (Post trademark infringement intended).

Didn’t love the gauntlet match. Pins on Joe and Orton came too fast and looked fake. Also giving away Bryan vs Kofi on TV really doesnt get me excited to see the full match.

Rest of the show was meh. IIconics suck

Ventak from Mumbai,

The Miz’s promo was a bit shaky in the beginning but he finished off really strong. The IIconics vs Banks and Bayley was quite sloppy. I remember there was a four way at the first wargames takeover where Peyton looked great in the match. I think the multi-person match suits Peyton and Billie much better than a straight up tag match, so them being added to the WM match might not be too bad.

Do you think the US title stays a singles match. Also I guess this confirms Cena v Joe is not happening? Owens’ KO show segment wasn’t good at all. I’ve really soured on the Becky/Ronda/Charlotte feud. They just seemed to brawl because they had nothing better planned this week. I like the concept of babyfaces endorsing Kofi for Mania but having the Miz, KO and AJ just shoehorn it into their promo seemed very forced.

I really liked the story of the Gauntlet match with the cutbacks to the locker room supporting Kofi but at some stage doesn’t Kofi running the Gauntlet over 5 other guys kind of undermine the 5 guys/ undermine the WM match. I mean if he is able to beat these 5 guys, shouldn’t he have no problem beating Bryan at Mania. I feel they kinda underbooked the Gauntlet match with only Rowan not being pinned at all.

Smackdown was still a breeze to watch compared to RAW and I shudder to think what will happen at Mania. A 6 out of 10 show for me.

Dave from Sydney

Not a smackdown related feedback but was just listening to johns comment from yesterday about Triple H coming out as Thanos, imagine if instead he came out as a DC character as a big middle finger to marvel fans and Batista and his relation to marvel.

Also did you get a chance to watch Scapermania 5 from the weekend? The atmosphere for that show was absolutely incredible, especially for the main event.

Thanks always for the great content

Loved the first hour of the show. The miz cut the best promo of his career and made me want to see him beat shane at mania. Owens did a awesome job as talk show host and would take that segment every week.

The iiconics winning surprise me and i feel this will lead to them getting inserted into the tag title match at mania which i’m very happy about because these 2 are my favorite especially billie kay which as was a big fan of since her indy feds.

My only turn off was the last hour. What a waste of time that gauntlet match was. I get what they are trying to do with kofi but i might be in the minority her but it starting to turn me off on seeing kofi winning the title at mania because of how hard they are pushing this yes movement type angle right now. Plus they sacrifice 2 top guys in order to tell the story of kofi. If kofi was getting screwed again, why did they need to beat both joe and orton clean? It made both of them look weak that they couldn’t beat a guy that was on death’s door,
