My first main roster show in 3 months… and I regret it. There was nothing special about it, it felt like any other B show only longer. Several DQs, 3 squashes on the 2nd biggest show of the year.

Kevin Owens died and was embarrassed so that Braun could be a geek distraction to enable Roman to win. After 3 years the company’s top “babyface” is only able to finally beat Brock because of a distraction and direct interference. Why.

Sure AJ/Joe was great… but that’s one genuinely great match in 6 hours.

One positive I will say is that they were smart to incorporate Bliss’ double jointedness into the finish… it made the arm bar looked extra deadly

I think I’m going back to not watching main roster stuff and only following through you guys. Thanks for watching week to week so I don’t have to. Keep up the good work

I’ve ooh’d and aah’d and gasped for many spots in my time as a wrestling fan, but that Jeff Hardy swanton to the apron made my stomach turn. This guy needs to cut the stupid shit, for meaningless matches.

Otherwise, this was a much better show than I expected. I’m expecting a lot of hate because of some of the finishes, but I actually think a lot of them were well done. They worked and added to the stories of each feud. My one issue was the squash of Kevin Owens. I even enjoyed the main event and the way Strowman got taken out.

Seeing Balor and then Hardy back to back, it made me curious if anyone has ever been involved in a paint vs paint match, or loser loses his paint. Do you know if a match of that sort has ever taken place?

I think this might just be one of the best SummerSlams of all time. Even for as long as it was (I didn’t watch the pre show) it felt like it was a breeze to get through. I was playing a video game on my other monitor so that might’ve been helpful.

I won’t run down the entire card but all-in-all I felt that a lot of the matches delivered, and some of them even over-delivered. There’s been a major shift in style and tone since the FOX deal and seeing Hunter at the Smackdown tapings in the latest Chronicle makes me think he’s slowly but surely taking over (pun not intended) a strong portion of main roster creative. And I feel that there’s been a much stronger attention to detail paid to a lot of the product when it comes to creative.

My question for you guys: Likely or Unlikely that Dean Ambrose and/or Demon Balor main event a PPV before Wrestlemania 35?

Was a good show tonight could’ve gone without the screwy dqs but what can you do. Almost thought they were going to have roman Squash Brock for a sec. Loved the Becky heel turn. Wish she would’ve won. Finn vs Corban was exactly what it needed to be. Do you think they have match w Miz and Bryan for bryans career on the line?

Mark from Vaughan

The 4-hour main card was a pleasant surprise and the show didn’t drag as much as usual. I also think they had a good game plan to deal with the main event by involving Braun and keeping the match short. I don’t understand why KO has been on such a downward trajectory this year but that squash was just brutal to watch. I guess he fell so the Demon could rise.

Question: Which of the programs that we expect to continue do you think will be given the Cell treatment? AJ/Joe seems natural. Do you think they’ll find a way to extend the Miz and Bryan story to a blow off at Mania? It’d obviously involve some detours along the way.

It’s 4am here in the UK, so I’ll keep this brief

  • I actually think the use of the Demon worked well. A reminder of what the demon is, and that the demon means business with a dominant win that hopefully leads into more of a push

  • Turning Becky as a heel seems misguided. Was a very good match though.

  • Some really good matches overall that made it a good show, Joe vs. Styles my pick for the best.

  • New Day/Bludgeon Brothers was good but God was it ever sloppy with many mistakes.

  • Owens Vs. Strowman: Poor Kevin.

  • Already sick of B Teams music.

  • What was with the weirdness of Drew coming out last of the 4 in the IC match, doing his poses and JoJo having to announce Dolph to Drew’s music?

  • Very underwhelmed by the Ronda match, and I say that as a fan of hers. Just winning it in a procession with no angle was just bleh. Also have to say that on a 13 match card, only having two women’s matches and one being less than five minutes shows the this facade of the Evolution PPV as a PR exercise and there’s still a ways to go to treat the women equally.

  • I enjoyed Braun’s speech essentially being ‘Not a coward, but also not an idiot’ As for the title win for Roman, eh. It is what it is. Let’s just be done with it.

Jesse from the 6

They got Ronda so they can get clips on ESPN and on main stream news shows.
They knew the clip of her winning the title would be played on said networks.
And they ruined it by putting her in that fucking Mantaur makeup. What the fuck was that?

This show was a lesson in overthinking things. I almost want to give them credit for getting 1/4 of the Barclay’s Center to cheer for Roman, but nah. Fuck Vince. It’s a shitty story nobody wanted.

Having Hell in a Cell right after SummerSlam is silly. It means you have to book a bunch of non-finishes on what’s ostensibly the second biggest show of the year in order to build to cell matches.

Match placement was also weird. I increasingly think they should follow the New Japan model and just book in ascending order of importantance. Do y’all think that would work in WWE?

All in all, a pretty crummy show.

Overall a strong show, good stuff was really good (AJ/Joe, Seth/Dolph, Bryan/Miz) and the bad stuff was short. As someone who was against the Demon gimmick being used in non title matches, I have to say their use was perfect and the crowd went nuts. Overall, biggest disappointment was the crowd, they weren’t great, think 4 Summerslams in the market over did it. Becky’s heel turn into a face turn was awesome, and I really liked some of the development going forward.

People will knock the show and the ending but this card was very good and lived up to how it looked on paper and more.

Joe and Aj was as good a match as I coulda ever expected WWE to let them have. And Bryan and Miz was excellent. Bryan channeling his inner Tanahashi and leaning into strikes before powering up got me to mark out. No doubt he borrowed that from the G1

Great return of the Demon. After it was so forced in 2016, the unannounced surprise was well executed. KO felt buried tonight and I hoped the Ronda match would have been booked better but still cool for her to win. She’s really endeared herself to the wrestling world. Was weird they didn’t have the Horsewomen there to celebrate with her.

Nice main event - they saved the crowd by incorporating Braun from the start. I didn’t think the crowd tried to hijack it as much as they were genuinely hot after the Braun promo. Interesting to see how Brock is used tomorrow.

An overall great PPV. The return of the Demon. The IC title match was incredible. As well as the WWE title match and i’m not even disappointed that it ended in DQ. Ronda looked good, however, there was too much talking and Alexa’s selling needs help. I’m glad to see Roman not get booed out of the building. What do you think comes from the MITB? I wouldn’t cash in yet because it defeats the value of this win.

Burak from London.

Really enjoyed Demon Balor squashing Corbin, hopefully he can now move onto main event programmes.

Do you think they brought Braun out to stop the crowd turning on the match, by providing them with a distraction?

Okay. 5 kickstarts later, and and I can see the Pre-Crisis DC universe…anyway, onto Summerslam, the best matches of the night were Joe/AJ, where a DQ finish can still tell a great story, Dolph/Rollins, where even early on, this was good use of having Dean and Drew used sparingly, and Miz/Bryan, where you clearly knew this feud was going to last awhile and like Joe/AJ, the finish would set this up. But do we really need Maryse and Brie to get involved? The Brock/Roman match went about as well as can be expected, with the tease of Braun cashing in getting the crowd much more involved, lets see what Raw tomorrow night brings. Overall, most of the show had decent storytelling, with the exception of the Nakamura/Hardy match. A solid 8 out of 10 tonight, a show I was worried would drag, but didn’t!

First PPV I’ve watched live in a long time and probably wasn’t worth getting the day off work for. To many non-finishes. Still was fun to watch with my girlfriend, a non-wrestling fan. Her first question was, how long do the rounds go for? But still a good preview for her for the WWE show we’ll be attending in Oct in Melbourne. AJ/Joe and Miz/Bryan were great, Roman Reigns continues to be the reason I don’t bother watching WWE much. Thank you for all the hard work you do, I love your shows. Great work.

Connor from Minneapolis

Great way to start off the night. Fun match between Ziggler and Seth that seems to still be heading towards an eventual heel turn by Ambrose.

I’ve honestly been impressed by Carmella recently and she held her own in the match. Obviously though the story between Becky and Charlotte is the driving force here. While it obviously didn’t work with the live crowd I thought Charlotte’s actions after the match did a good job of garnering sympathy. Not sure if you guys had time to see it, but Charlotte may have gave her best promo as a babyface ever on a wwe.com exclusive.

It feels very difficult to give an opinion on the Becky turn until we see how far they are going to push Becky heel, versus keeping her in a more grey area. There was a wwe.com follow up with Becky as well, but she just refused to do an interview and walked away upset.

At first I was very skeptical when I realized that Demon Balor was being used, but I really don’t have any complaints. At least they had a reason for it that was conveyed by the announcers.

When Brock threw the case so high and far, I had flashbacks of him throwing the car door. Luckily he threw it were it had no real chance of hurting anyone this time.

I actually have to give WWE props on the main event. In the end it seems like they got the result they always wanted, with about the least negative response you could have hoped for.

Almost an 8.5/10 PPV for me, but the length really does hurt and brings it down to a 7.75/10.

Chris from Pennsylvania,

I really enjoyed this show tonight. It was a long one though, so I’ll try to keep my points brief.

The three matches that went 20+ minutes were all great, particularly the Styles-Joe match. Joe is an amazing all-around talent and I hope this feud ends with him as WWE Champion.

The return of the Demon King made the match everyone was dreading one of the highlights of the night. The Rousey-Alexa match was exactly what it should have been, and Strowman coming out added a bit of unpredictability to the main event that it desperately needed.

I’m hoping that they aren’t turning Becky heel. Her attack had the feel of her being fed up with Charlotte’s BS and standing up for herself, but the announce team made it sound like this was a heel move. Hopefully the writing team comes to its senses before Tuesday’s show.

Other that the disappointment of Kevin Owens getting squashed, there wasn’t a whole lot to complain about here. Some great matches, mostly solid booking and I’m interested to see where a lot of these stories are headed. 8.5/10

Alright Lads. Long time listener, first time poster. Some notes from being live. Rollins vs Dolph was my match of the night. Seth’s reverse superplex-falcon arrow combo was ridiculous and really got the crowd going crazy.
The Becky turn was by far the biggest pop of the night.
Clever making Balor the demon in his match against Corbin. All night people were waiting for that match for the '“piss break” and it is amazing how some facepaint and ribbons can get people to stay.
Considering how personal the AJ/Joe feud I really disliked how generic the first 10mins were. Trading holds etc rather than AJ being pissed and going for blood. The match did pick up and the stuff with AJ’s wife really woke up the crowd. She genuinely seemed pissed with the daughter’s involvement though.
Finally the Brock vs Roman match was whatever. They have never managed to recapture the magic they had at WM31. It was clever bringing out Braun to prevent the crowd from shitting on the match. However I thought made Braun look pretty weak not challenging the winner even after his beat down.

Andrew from Cape Breton

WWE turning Becky Lynch is the most WWE thing I’ve seen WWE do in awhile. Either that, or the bait and switch with Braun’s cash in so people wouldn’t leave. What a show. I actually enjoyed the majority of it. The highlight of the show was the AJ Styles/Samoa Joe match, even with the DQ finish. The best part came when the camera’s mic caught AJ’s daughter saying, “Daddy, you’re bleeding”. The Ronda match was excellent, Miz vs Bryan was great and overall, it was a good show. 8 popular babyfaces turning heel out of 10.

I’m honestly amazed people are saying positive things about this show.

But I guess that just shows that there are a variety of fans out there and one person’s garbage PPV is another person’s great PPV.

I’m in the garbage camp though this month.

yesterday i went to the Brooklyn to see Takeover, second one this year for me. After that i told my best friend there is not way the main roster would beat that. And they didnt. Opening match was great was expecting an Ambrose heel turn. Miz vs Daniel in my opinion was the match of the night, probably Miz’ best match ever. Loved joe vs AJ but i wish an AJ title match had a clean finish rather than DQ or messy finishes. I like that they put the belt on Rhonda, biggest name in their roster holds a belt now. And we even got to see the demon return. What i didnt like was the DQ finishes, hated the Braun/Owens match what was the point. Then there was the main event Everyone knew Roman would probably win and hopefully Braun cashes in but instead we got a forced coronation of Reigns again and it ended so fast we didnt get to hear the boos really reign in. Summerslam was better than i expecting but that ending just showed me that Vince doesnt give a damn about the fans and from now on its just NXT and NJPW for me. 6/10
