Former Pro Wrestling NOAH and All Japan Pro Wrestling talent Mitsuo Momota has recovered from terminal cancer. This past January, he underwent tests for cataract surgery and it was discovered that he had stage 4 lung cancer.

Momota had been hospitalized since March 1st. He underwent radiation treatment and took anti-cancer drugs, but at one point, he lost over 50 pounds of body weight. Chikara Momota, Mitsuo’s son revealed to Tokyo Sports that he was told by doctors that his father’s condition was very weak and to let him “enjoy his last week”.

Mitsuo attended the memorial service for his late father Rikidōzan on December 15th. Rikidōzan passed away in 1963 at the age of 39.

Due to the treatment to help rid of the affected area of his lungs, Mitsuo was unable to eat large or hard foods but he regained the weight he lost. His wife jokingly said he eats too much now.

Kenta Kobashi and Jun Akiyama attended the memorial service for Rikidōzan as well.
