Actress and former MMA fighter Gina Carano is suing Disney and LucasFilm over her firing from ‘The Mandalorian’.
In February 2021, the 41-year-old shared a post on her Instagram account comparing the treatment of Jews by the Nazis to “hating someone for their political views”.
It was part of a string of social media posts in which Carano espoused some controversial views.
On the day of the Instagram post, Carano was fired by Lucasfilm and dropped by UTA, the talent agency that had represented her.
Her 59-page civil suit, filed in a California federal court, alleges wrongful termination.
The complaint begins:
A short time ago in a galaxy not so far away, Defendants made it clear that only one orthodoxy in thought, speech, or action was acceptable in their empire, and that those who dared to question or failed to fully comply would not be tolerated.
The actress’s complaint is financially supported by X Corp, the Elon Musk-owned social media platform.
She is seeking at least $75,000 in compensatory damages and a trial by jury.
The lawsuit alleges that Disney and LucasFilm “targeted, harassed, publicly humiliated, defamed, and went to great lengths to destroy Carano’s career”.
Carano also claims she was treated differently to her male co-workers.
