Welcome to our coverage of Joey Janela’s L.A. Confidential event from the Hi Hat venue in Los Angeles, California.
Due to travel problems, Amazing Red is off the show where he was scheduled to face Great Sasuke.
Kevin Gill is calling the show with a rotating series of commentators.
DJ Z VS THE GREAT SASUKE
DJ Z was originally slated to face Marko Stunt, and this was the first change to the card.
Sasuke tried to hypnotize DJ Z until smacking him and DJ Z flipped over. Gill called it “the head fuck because he fucked with his head.”
Gill said Sasuke represented his people well in the Japanese Diet, unlike some of the U.S. politicians.
Sasuke missed a somersault off the top and landed on the edge of the apron.
Sasuke lifted DJ Z, turned to each side of the ring and hit a piledriver.
The video cut out briefly and came back with Sasuke landing a missile dropkick to the elbow of DJ Z and pinned him,

The audience was into the two and it was okay as an opener. I wouldn’t say it was anything special and unfortunate that Red couldn’t make it to the show as working with Sasuke was probably a big deal for him.
TONY DEPPEN VS JUNGLE BOY
Brett Lauderdale joined commentary.
Deppen left the ring to go to the washroom. He returned and blew his nose onto Jungle Boy.
Jungle Boy started landing spots by jumping off the ropes and the audience responded well and chanted for Jungle Boy. Deppen held onto Jungle Boy during a ‘rana attempt and powerbombed Jungle Boy into the post. Deppen followed with a suicide dive onto the seats.
Lauderdale noted how long it took them to set up the chairs today and they wrecked it in minutes.
Deppen kicked out of the Jungle cutter. Jungle Boy missed with a 450 splash, Deppen hit a flying knee and double foot stomp to the back for a two-count.
Jungle Boy hit a reverse ‘rana and Deppen came right down on his head. Deppen kicked out of a sunset bomb and rolled up Jungle Boy grabbing the trunks and pinned Jungle Boy.
WINNER: TONY DEPPEN AT 13:38
Jungle Boy was very popular and left an impression on the audience. The finish was flat as most assumed Deppen was losing and wanted to see Jungle Boy win.
Jungle Boy remained in the ring and received the post-match adulation with chants of “please come back”. The announcers tried to compare him to Marko Stunt’s performance in August.
PWG referee Rick Knox was introduced to the crowd, making his GCW debut.
BRODY KING VS HARDCORE HOLLY
Gill said that GCW’s booking meetings may been influenced by edibles and called this a dream match for fans of smash-mouth wrestling.
The feed died for this match and didn’t come back until it was over. Holly was thanking the crowd and received a big chant as he left.
HUMAN TORNADO VS PENELOPE FORD
Tornado was playing around with her and taking her lightly. He patted her on the chest was and was slapped by Ford.
Tornado caught her and vertical suplexed Ford on the floor.
Tornado destroyed her with a face wash in the corner. Ford slipped on the ropes with a Greco Roman knuckle lock and went for it again and was sent onto the canvas by Tornado. Ford came back with a release German into the turnbuckle.
Ford applied a version of an omaplata, but Tornado elbowed his way out.
Ford kicked out of several big moves, Tornado fully rotated her with a suplex and started mocking her while she was down. They chanted “asshole” at Tornado. He placed her on the top turnbuckle and she attempted a shiranui but Tornado kicked out.
Ford went for a handspring, was caught but still hit a DDT and won the match.
WINNER: PENELOPE FORD AT 18:58
This was way too long and the two were on different pages at points in the match. The audience stayed with it, but I didn’t think it clicked.
They shook hands after the match and walked to the back together.
D-LO BROWN VS ETHAN PAGE
Page hit a shoulder block and did the Nation of Domination pose.
Page set him up for the People’s Elbow and missed. Brown knocked him down and hit a moonsault off the second turnbuckle that generated a response of “you still got it.”
Brown hit his leg drop and then the Lo Down for a two-count. The audience was cheering for D-Lo.
Page knocked Brown off the top and hit a Swanton for a two-count. Page hit the Rock Bottom and Brown kicked out again.
Page attacked him with a chair, Brown stopped him and took it away. Page went to the floor, wrapped his fist and nailed Brown with the object and pinned him while being suplexed back inside.
WINNER: ETHAN PAGE AT 11:39
Page said, “by any means necessary” after winning.
Page got a lot of heat and they worked in some clever stuff.
For 48 years old, it’s hard for Brown to do a lot of nostalgia spots from 20 years ago, but the audience enjoyed Brown a lot and treated him like a big deal.
KIKUTARO VS DELILAH DOOM VS TAKESHI MINAMINO VS FAÇADE VS JAKE ATLAS VS JIMMY LLOYD VS CHASE OWENS
This match was originally to feature Eli Everfly, but in his place, they added Michinoku Pro wrestler Takeshi Minamino and Jake Atlas.
Everyone was taking turns early in quick rotation. Doom came in and did some sequences with Lloyd. She jumped off the top and tried a Code Red but missed it.
There was a four-way submission spot and Doom turned all four over for a Boston Crab. Doom started suplexing all the men, Kikutaro avoided the suplex with a low blow, Doom hit Kiktaro low and hit a release German. Owen stopped her with a superkick.
Doom went for a suicide dive onto Lloyd and turned it into a DDT on the landing.
Façade hit a springboard into a somersault splash to the floor, he followed with a double springboard dive to the floor.
Owens hit the package piledriver to Minamino.
Atlas took out Doom with a pump handle driver.
Lloyd spiked Atlas with a suplex and no one could save in time as Lloyd got the win.
WINNER: JIMMY LLOYD AT 12:19
This was super-fast, lots of big spots, some spills here and there and it was hardly flawless, but I thought Façade stood out most among the seven.
The audience enjoyed it and each got their chance to shine.
KTB VS JACOB FATU
Fatu is the son of the Tongan Kid and nephew of Rikishi. He was wearing old tights of Headshrinker Fatu from his WWF days.
KTB hit a DDT off the apron to Fatu with his head hitting on the way down to the floor. Fatu came back with this insane dive over the top as he flew, which was impressive given his size.
KTB speared Fatu through a board in the corner, hit a sit-out powerbomb and Fatu kicked out.
Another board was balanced on two chairs inside the ring.
Fatu caught him with a Samoan drop through the board in mid-air and got the pin.
WINNER: JACOB FATU AT 6:47
They worked a fast-paced match and Fatu has a lot of athletic skill for someone his size and should be someone to keep your eye on as his career progresses.
ELI EVERFLY VS MARKO STUNT
Everfly immediately attacked as Stunt posed on the turnbuckle.
Everfly placed Stunt on three chairs on the floor, dove off the middle rope but crashed through the chairs.
Everfly had such creative offense, including a backslide bomb into the corner and makes it all look flawless. He hit a tilt-a-whirl and turned it into a destroyer.
They went to the floor and you couldn’t see anything besides chairs being piled on.
They set up a board and it ended with Stunt going through it with a Canadian Destroyer. They went to a wide shot and you couldn’t see them at all.
Then, the bell sounded out of nowhere and they declared Everfly the winner.
WINNER: ELI EVERFLY BY STOPPAGE AT 11:38
Everfly celebrated in the ring before leaving.
It was hard to figure out what happened because it was all off camera.
They were calling GCW staff down to ringside for assistance.
Joey Janela posted an update after the match stating Stunt only hurt his leg and is going to be okay.
NICK GAGE VS DAVID ARQUETTE FOR THE GCW TITLE
Gage cut a Nick Gage promo at the start. Arquette was introduced as the star of Ready to Rumble and a former WCW champion.
Gage attacked, sent Arquette to the floor and into the crowd.
Arquette landed a huracanrana after five minutes of Gage attacking him. Arquette climbed to the top and nearly lost his balance as he dove to the floor with a crossbody.
Arquette tried a dive to the floor with a chair and crashed to the floor, he tried it again and it was mildly better. Then, Arquette stumbled over the top rope and was smashed with a bottle.
Gage speared Arquette through a wooden board in the corner. Arquette was left inside the ring, Gage left and returned with light tubes.
Joey Ryan ran into the ring wearing a sling, he superkicked Gage and set up for the Penis Plex, when he was attacked by Messiah. Arquette caught Gage with a low blow and cutter for a one-count.
Gage blasted Arquette with a light tube. He set up more light tubes onto a set of chairs, but Arquette hit him with punches and put Gage through the light tubes with a cutter. Arquette hit a cannonball onto a light tube on Gage in the corner. Arquette was cut all over his shoulders and back from the light tubes.
Gage used a pizza cutter onto the forehead of Arquette, smashed a light tube over his head and Arquette is bleeding a lot. He was holding his neck. He went to the floor, came back and it looked like they legitimately started hitting each other. Gage threw him down and pinned him, Arquette popped up and walked out.
