Owens discusses the original plan for his return to NXT in 2019.

At NXT TakeOver: WarGames 2019, Undisputed ERA (Adam Cole, Bobby Fish, Roderick Strong & Kyle O’Reilly) took on Keith Lee, Tommaso Ciampa and T-BAR (Dominik Dijakovic). The surprise partner for Ciampa’s team was former NXT Champion Kevin Owens.

Owens, Ciampa, Lee and T-BAR were victorious in the match and shortly after his NXT return, Owens went back to Monday Night Raw. He spoke to talkSPORT’s Alex McCarthy and shared that prior to his appearance at WarGames, there were concrete plans for him to have an extended run in NXT. WWE Chairman Vince McMahon approved those plans, signed off on them and then changed his mind.

Before I did the War Games return, there were concrete plans for me to go back to NXT for an extended period before coming back to the main roster. At the time Paul Heyman was in charge on RAW and those were just plans we had and Vince had signed off on all of them and, eventually, he changed his mind and nothing happened. That’s all it comes down to – what he says goes. It wasn’t something I had just floated about, it was a plan that was going to happen and they just went in a different direction.

Owens main evented the 11/8 episode of Raw with Seth Rollins. Owens lost by count out and post-match, he attacked WWE Champion Big E.
