Akiyama won the KO-D Openweight Championship back in February from Tetsuya Endo. Takeshita has previously held the title on four occasions.

DDT has also announced a hardcore tag match with Jun Kasai & Chris Brookes vs. MAO & Shunma Katsumata, as well as a Deathmatch involving Atsushi Onita for the card.

The event will take place on the grounds where Kawasaki Stadium used to stand

King of DDT was a pretty enjoyable (if abbreviated) tournament this year. For as much grief as DDT gets as a comedy promotion, they’ve been able to tell the story of an aging legend making a surprising title run and holding his own against the company’s current crop of talent in a much more coherent way (and with MUCH better in-ring) than the NOAH Mutoh experiment. Fully expecting the title to revert back to the ‘default’ Takeshita, though the possibility of his partner Ueno unexpectedly being the one to defeat Akiyama after Takeshita was unable to could be interesting.
