Question I’ve always had about the G1, Has a Heavyweight champion won a G1 tournament since 2012? Is it a given that the champion going in probably isnt winning the G1 with the prize being a title shot at WK?

The last time the IWGP champion won the G1 was in 2000, when Kensuke Sasaki won it. The reigning champ has rarely won the G1.

This is going to be the best G1 ever!

It is funny that Don Callis was noting that Yoshi-Hashi was on the bubble and we don’t see Taichi in the bracket either.

Okada vs. Jay White on night one is a match I am excited to see, especially after Jay Whites proclamation to Okada when he joined Chaos.

Disappointed no Osprey (thought there was a strong chance with how accepted he is in Japan and his dropping the Jr title at Dominion)

Surprised no Taichi with his recent push though I don’t care either way about him.

I find Toru-Yano and Yoshi-Hashi to be waste of entries. Rather see Finlay or members of K.E.S get shine.

Overall - incredibly excited for the G1! Loved watching it last year and have loved the podcast recaps for several years now.

For some reason, I’m really looking forward to the Page/Okada match. I can see Taichi as being a wrestler whom is in the early multi-tags with Suzuki or ZSJ.
Btw, I don’t fully understand NJPW Creative’s strategies when it comes to the number of G-1 debuts. And it’s probably due to wanting to equally balance the number of Japanese and Gaijin wrestlers. But I would’ve love to see Jeff Cobb replace Yoshi.

I think this is a chance for Page to break out in New Japan, put on some big showings and become something in the company.

The only complaint I had was having in Yoshi Hashi instead of Jeff Cobb. Cobb would have been a nice special attraction entry. Yano I know why he is there, its what John said, to break up the match styles a bit. But Yoshi Hashi serves no real purpose.

Unless the plan is he is going to be pushed, but I think that is doubtful.

I’d rather see Cody or an ROH star like Jay Lethal in the bracket.

I think the reason that guys like Ospreay and Taichi aren’t in is that they competed in The Best Of Super Juniors, which is their G1 equivalent and it would be unfair to do a similar very physical tournament on top.

If I was competing in The G1, I would want a match with Yano as it won’t be the most taxing match.

Taichi was not in the BOSJ, he’s a heavyweight.

Well Taichi sucks. So there’s that.
