The COVID-19 outbreak is continuing to greatly impact the world and on this specific topic, the business of professional wrestling. New Japan Pro-Wrestling has not held a show since the February 26th New Japan Road event and per an announcement from the company, they will not be hosting any events until next month. In an article published on NJPW1972.com, all NJPW shows through May 4th have been cancelled.
It’s noted in the article that they’ll make announcements about their events after May 4th at a later date. NJPW is considering the option of doing empty arena shows but only if the staff and wrestlers’ health can be protected at the utmost level. The company will continue to push out content as a part of the NJPW ‘Together’ Project.
New Japan was scheduled to host their Sakura Genesis show on March 31st but that event was cancelled in wake of the COVID-19 outbreak. The ‘Road to Wrestling Dontaku’ tour was set to kick off on April 11th and run through May 1st which would’ve led to the Wrestling Dontaku shows on May 3rd and 4th.
While NJPW operations are suspended, the company has been pushing out a plethora of interviews, adding more content to NJPW World and releasing a new version of the NJPW Official English Podcast on a weekly basis.
