Wednesday night’s episode of NXT featured Rhea Ripley becoming the NXT women’s champion along with news regarding the next two weeks of programming.

In the main event, Rhea Ripley pinned Shayna Baszler to become NXT women’s champion after fighting out of the Kirifuda Clutch and hitting a Riptide off the turnbuckle. After the match, they had the Bob Backlund style celebration with fans and talent filling the ring and celebrating with Ripley to end the show.

Earlier in the night, Adam Cole retained the NXT title pinning Finn Balor after Johnny Gargano came out and allowed Cole to hit a low blow behind the referee’s back.

Initially, it was believed that NXT would not air episodes on Christmas and New Year’s Day, however, they announced there will be episodes on those dates.

Next week’s show will feature an open challenge for Roderick Strong’s North American championship and a tag match with Keith Lee & Lio Rush vs. Damian Priest & Tony Nese among the matches.

The USA Network is listing the show in its usual timeslot next Wednesday, including its eight-minute overrun.

It was also revealed during the show that the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic will return in 2020 with the teams set to be announced on the January 1st episode. That show will also feature the NXT year-end awards.

The next live edition of NXT will be Wednesday, January 8th.
