A settlement reached in the termination suit.
As first reported by the Sports Business Journal, Vince McMahon and Oliver Luck have reached a settlement in the wrongful termination lawsuit that was initially filed in 2020. The terms of the settlement are unknown. The settlement was referred to in a filing by Luck’s attorney, Paul Dobrowski. Luck and McMahon came to terms on June 16th.
They were scheduled to head to court on July 11th. McMahon’s attorney Jerry McDevitt did not oppose the motion. Former XFL commissioner Oliver Luck filed the wrongful termination suit against McMahon in April 2020.
It’s noted in the lawsuit that Alpha Entertainment filed through bankruptcy court to have the court reject “certain executive contracts.” Luck was terminated from the XFL on April 9th which was one day before the majority of the league’s staff was laid off. The XFL was five weeks into its season before the COVID-19 pandemic forced the league to shut down.
Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia are part of a group that purchased the XFL for $15 million. The league is set to relaunch in 2023 and has a multi-year agreement with ESPN and The Walt Disney Company for their exclusive broadcast rights from 2023 through 2027.
