WRESTLING NEWS

**Tonight’s episode of Raw from Cincinnati is being promoted around a big announcement from Stephanie McMahon, who has not been on television for months. The following matches have also been announced for tonight’s show:
*Roman Reigns vs. Bobby Lashley with the winner facing Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam
*Curtis Axel & Bo Dallas vs. Matt Hardy & Bray Wyatt for the Raw tag titles
*Finn Balor vs. Drew McIntyre

**On today’s release of ‘Being the Elite’, it was announced that Joey Janela will take on Hangman Page at ‘All In’ on September 1st at the Sears Centre.

**SmackDown Live is going to feature a tag team tournament over the next three weeks with the winners earning a tag title shot against The Bludgeon Brothers at SummerSlam. The four teams will be Sanity, New Day, The Usos, and Cesaro & Sheamus, who have been off television for months. The tournament will begin on Tuesday night’s episode from Toledo, Ohio.

**Impact Wrestling will be holding their television tapings in Toronto on Monday and Tuesday night at the Rebel Entertainment Complex. They have announced the following for tonight’s tapings:
*An appearance by Anthony Carelli (the former Santino Marella)
*The debut of Scarlett Bordeaux
*Killer Kross vs. Josh Alexander
*Kongo Kong vs. Stone Rockwell

**Impact Wrestling will be returning to the Rebel Entertainment Complex for two additional nights of television tapings on Sunday, August 12th, and Monday, August 13th.

**During Sunday night’s pay-per-view, Impact Wrestling announced that the Bound for Glory event will take place Sunday, October 14th at the Melrose Ballroom in Queens, New York. The venue was just run by MLW last week for their Battle Riot event and holds approximately 800 people, which Impact should be able to fill without any issues.

It is notable that Impact Wrestling and MLW are running the same venue within ten days of the other. MLW has booked the Melrose Ballroom for October 4th for a television taping. Even more notable is that a lot of talent works for both promotions and theoretically will be on both shows in October. MLW has already announced that LA Park is working the October 4th card.

**The WWE Network will have a new episode of ‘Table for 3’ airing immediately after Raw with Ric Flair, Kurt Angle, and Sting. That is followed by ‘Elias: Live from Bourbon Street’, which was shot WrestleMania weekend features Elias performing on the street in New Orleans.

**The G1 Climax has a break until Thursday and resumes in Niigata with three consecutive shows coming up. Thursday is a B Block card and features the following lineup:
*Sanada (2-1) vs. Kota Ibushi (2-1)
*Kenny Omega (3-0) vs. Juice Robinson (0-3)
*Tomohiro Ishii (2-1) vs. Zack Sabre Jr. (1-2)
*Tetsuya Naito (2-1) vs. Tama Tonga (1-2)
*Toru Yano (1-2) vs. Hirooki Goto (1-2)
*Kazuchika Okada & Gedo vs. Yoshi-Hashi & SHO
*Hiroshi Tanahashi & David Finlay vs. Togi Makabe & Toa Henare
*Bad Luck Fale & Tanga Loa vs. Jay White & YOH
*Hangman Page & Chase Owens vs. EVIL & Bushi
*Minoru Suzuki & El Desperado vs. Michael Elgin & Ren Narita

**Here are the updated point totals for the G1 after the first seven cards:

A BLOCK: Hiroshi Tanahashi (6), Jay White (6), EVIL (6), Kazuchika Okada (4), Minoru Suzuki (4), Michael Elgin (4), Togi Makabe (4), Bad Luck Fale (2), Hangman Page (2), and Yoshi-Hashi (2)

B BLOCK: Kenny Omega (6), Kota Ibushi (4), Sanada (4), Tomohiro Ishii (4), Tetsuya Naito (4), Zack Sabre Jr. (2), Hirooki Goto (2), Tama Tonga (2), Toru Yano (2), and Juice Robinson (0)

**AXS TV will begin voicing the first G1 matches this Tuesday with Jim Ross and Josh Barnett in Los Angeles to call the select opening night matches from the A and B Blocks. The first episode will feature Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Minoru Suzuki and Kazuchika Okada vs. Jay White.

**Nikki and Brie Bella are scheduled to appear on ‘The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon’ this Wednesday night on NBC. The season finale of Total Bellas airs this Sunday on E!

**WWN has adjusted their premium options and will now be carrying all of their events live on the Club WWN streaming service. Previously, the shows were being added on VOD weeks after they aired live and it was a separate price to stream the shows live. The Club WWN service is $9.99 per month and will feature live streaming of the EVOLVE, Full Impact Pro, and SHINE events. I always thought it was going to be a struggle to have fans pay for a streaming service that didn’t include live streaming of the major shows and they were going to choose one or the other, or just not spend any money at all.

**The next set of EVOLVE shows are in two weeks with EVOLVE 108 on Saturday, August 4th from Philadelphia with Matt Riddle vs. Shane Strickland for the EVOLVE title and a non-title match between Joey Janela and AR Fox. The following night they are in Melrose, Massachusetts with Joey Janela vs. Darby Allin for the WWN championship and a non-title match between Matt Riddle and Austin Theory.

**Tickets went on sale Monday for MLW’s War Games event on Thursday, September 6th in Fort Lauderdale, Florida at the War Memorial Auditorium. They have announced Low Ki, Pentagon Jr., Fenix, MJF, Tom Lawlor, Shane Strickland, Sami Callihan, Barrington Hughes, Salina De La Renta, and The Dirty Blondes for the show.

**The WWE has posted a clip of Cain Velasquez working out at the Performance Center last week:

MMA NEWS

**The UFC held a Fight Night card from the Barclaycard Arena in Hamburg, Germany on Sunday morning and was a lengthy show that saw 10 of the 13 fights go the distance. The card did not feature much star power with a lot of low ranked fighters filling up the prelims. The main event saw Anthony Smith knock out Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in the opening round of their light heavyweight fight. Smith just stopped Rashad Evans last month and followed up with another impressive stoppage of a former light heavyweight champion. While Smith was hopeful of turning around quickly to fight Alexander Gustafsson on August 4th at UFC 227, it was reported by John Morgan at MMA Junkie that Gustafsson has an injury and will be unable to fight on the card.

The card on Sunday drew an announced crowd of 7,798 and a gate of $750,000 with the following results:
*Liu Pingyuan def. Damian Stasiak by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)
*Darko Stosic def. Jeremy Kimball by TKO at 3:13 of Round 1
*Manny Bermudez def. Davey Grant by triangle choke at 0:59 of Round 1
*Aleksander Rakic def. Justin Ledet by unanimous decision (30-25, 30-24, 30-24)
*Nad Narimani def. Khalid Taha by unanimous decision (30-27 all)
*Bartosz Fabinski def. Emil Meek by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)
*Damir Hadzovic def. Nick Hein by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
*Nasrat Haqparast def. Marc Diakiese by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-26)
*Danny Roberts def. David Zawada by split decision (29-28, 27-30, 29-28)
*Marcin Tybura def. Stefan Struve by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)
*Abu Azaitar def. Vitor Miranda by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)
*Corey Anderson def. Glover Teixeira by unanimous decision (30-27 all)
*Anthony Smith def. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua by KO at 1:29 of Round 1

The Fight of the Night bonus went to Danny Roberts and David Zawada and the two Performance bonuses were awarded to Anthony Smith and Manny Bermudez for $50,000 each.

**After the fight, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua issued a statement on the loss to Anthony Smith:

Unfortunately we don’t always get the result we want, and to understand that fact is part of life. Congratulations to Anthony Smith. For so many times I was celebrating at this moment and I can’t take his merits from him. I dedicated myself, trained hard, and did all that was within my reach for this fight, but he was better yesterday. Life continues, thank you all for the support.

**The UFC has a big card on Fox this Saturday from Calgary, Alberta that is headlined by a big rematch between Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier. The two fought at UFC 211 in May 2017 and it ended in a no contest after Alvarez landed a series of illegal knees. Former featherweight champion Jose Aldo will attempt to earn his first victory in over two years when he takes on Jeremy Stephens, who has been red hot winning his last three fights. Also, on the card is former strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk who is fighting Tecia Torres on the main card.

**Bellator MMA confirmed the news on Monday that Fedor Emelianenko and Chael Sonnen will have their Heavyweight Grand Prix semi-final bout on Saturday, October 13th at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York. Bellator is running back-to-back nights with the other semi-final between Matt Mitrione and Ryan Bader taking place the night before in Uncasville, Connecticut. Tickets for the Nassau Coliseum event go on sale this Friday.

**UFC president Dana White recently spent $1 million on his son’s 16th birthday party in Las Vegas.

UFC Hamburg was easily the worst card of the year. It’s not often I watch a card and say “there was nothing worth watching” here. Good wins for Anthony Smith and Nasrat Haqparast. A win over Glover should get Corey Anderson some respect in the division.

UFC Calgary should be a hell of a card on Saturday.

I think Stephanie is announcing the unification of the men’s tag belts and the creation of the women’s tag belts. Just a stab in the dark.

Why would they unify the Tag Titles?

Pretty sure it’s to announce the all female PPV

Yes that makes more sense.

I’m guessing the announcement will be like the Women’s Royal Rumble announcement:

Stephanie will come to the ring where every Female Performer are waiting (Breaking Kayfabe) and then each woman will then jump around, screaming with joy and hugging with each other.

If it’s The All Female PPV, will this mean we will have Female Announcers, Referees, Commentators. I can imagine Stephanie being on Commentary for the entire 4-6 hours (If they have the depth for that length of show)

I will not last 4 hours with Stephanie reading her fact files.
