John Pollock and Wai Ting review Friday Night SmackDown on FS1 featuring an NXT invasion.

With the majority of the talent unavailable, WWE put out one of their best shows in ages built around an NXT invasion. The show was built around an NXT title match as Adam Cole defended against Daniel Bryan, an attack by NXT women’s champion Shayna Baszler, Tommaso Ciampa appears on Miz TV, and a rallying speech from Paul Levesque to set up this year’s Survivor Series event.

NEWS OF THE DAY:

  • WWE talent misses SmackDown after being delayed in Saudi Arabia, all the details from Friday concerning this story
  • Additional details on the NXT talent arriving in Buffalo and putting together Friday’s episode
  • MLW and NJPW Power Struggle cards this weekend

And your Café feedback, comments & questions from the POST Wrestling Forum.

Top notch show tonight. Next man up as never meant more than tonight on SmackDown. Fantastic way to showcase the NXT talent before Survivor Series. I hope Fox Execs saw this and was impressed with the booking and round of applause to Pat Mcaffe for doing a tremendous job on commentary…that whole group were great together.

Side note really wish that when Sami Zayn referred to himself as the heart and soul of NXT, they zoomed out the camera and introduced Johnny Gargano.

8/10 tonight.

Just remember everyone, Vince McMahon was behind this show.

Yup, sure does highlight how shitty a job he usually does these days, when clearly he’s capable of much better.

Tonight was the first night ever that I was actually somewhat entertained by Mcaffe. Normally he annoys me no matter what he’s doing. Maybe he’s actually improving. Or that the weird team of Mcafee, Phillips and Renee actually worked.
