WWE is several weeks out from the 34th annual Royal Rumble event that will emanate from St. Petersburg, Florida inside of the ThunderDome. At the show, Roman Reigns is defending his Universal Championship against WWE producer Adam Pearce. On the 1/15 episode of SmackDown, Pearce and Reigns are going to sign a contract to make their match official.

Pearce got the opportunity by winning a gauntlet match. Shinsuke Nakamura defeated King Corbin, Rey Mysterio and Daniel Bryan and last up was Adam Pearce who was brought to the ring by Roman Reigns, Jey Uso and Paul Heyman. Reigns and Uso beat Nakamura down, laid out Pearce and put him on top of Nakamura to hand him the #1 contender spot.

Rey Mysterio and King Corbin will be in action on SmackDown as they’ll compete in singles competition. Corbin attacked Rey and Dominik on last week’s show.
