Masvidal has lost his last three fights with two losses to former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman and last fought in March 2022 losing a decision to Colby Covington. Burns just competed last weekend at UFC 283 and submitted Neil Magny in the first round of their welterweight contest.

No location has been announced for UFC 287, although Ariel Helwani has said that Madison Square Garden has been discussed, but nothing is confirmed yet.
