One of AEW’s longer-tenured wrestlers has suffered a medical scare.

Killswitch (formerly known as Luchasaurus) was reportedly hospitalized over the weekend due to severe lung damage, per a report from Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.

The experienced masked wrestler was rushed to a hospital by his wife on Friday after he reportedly was found collapsed. At the hospital, Killswitch’s blood oxygen level was below 80 percent and doctors said that he had pneumonia in both lungs. Fightful reported that he was “days away” from suffering permanent lung damage.

Killswitch is reportedly expected to recover within a month’s time, however, it’s unknown how long it will be until he will return to AEW programming.

The 39-year-old wrestler, known outside of the ring as Austin Matelson, has been a part of AEW’s roster since 2019. He first started out in a tag duo with Jungle Boy Jack Perry titled Jurassic Express, earning the promotion’s tag belts during that time. Since last year, he has been part of Christian Cage’s Patriarchy faction. His most recent appearance was last month at AEW All In London 2024, competing in a Casino Gauntlet match for a shot at the promotion’s world title.

Scary to hear. I hope he recovers well.
