REPORT: WWE releases Kevin Patrick

Patrick’s time with WWE comes to an end.

As first reported by Mike Johnson of PWInsider, WWE has released Kevin Patrick.

Patrick was the lead commentator for Friday Night SmackDown and earlier this week, he was removed from that role. There was a stretch in 2023 where Michael Cole joined Corey Graves and Patrick on the show in addition to his duties on Monday Night Raw.

He had been with WWE for several years and prior to transitioning to commentary, Patrick was a backstage interviewer and show host.

Patrick also calls Major League Soccer games.

That’s disappointing. While I wasn’t a huge fan of his on commentary, I thought he was a great backstage interviewer.

They still have no one to replace him.

Hate to see anyone lose their job. But he just wasn’t good enough.

I just got this sneaky suspicion that calling Tyler Bate a “tiny little fella” or whatever on Friday was the final straw in all this shit. Graves seemed genuinely pissed about this and presumably Bate himself was as well. Denigrating a wrestler’s size is like the polar opposite of what a commentator is supposed to do. That’s for Twitter and the rest of the Internet to complain about, not the play by play guy.

I thought he was pretty good as a backstage interviewer, he was just used in the wrong role IMO.
