The reason I think the women’s tag cup is a bad idea is simply because AEW has done such a terrible job with the singles women’s division. If the excuse I’m being fed is that this is going to give women more of an opportunity to be showcased on TV, you could’ve been doing that all along. No reason Penelope Ford, Nyla Rose, Shida & eventually Bea priestly could have been involved in weekly storylines. They haven’t even established a firm women’s division yet, so I’d like to see them work on that. I will reserve judgment however, like Jon said it’s in the execution.

Completely agree, hopefully they prove us wrong.

WWE has botched the women’s tag titles and they have a much much much better womens roster then AEW. AEW doing a “cup” just seems like a bad idea and a rip off of the Mae Young classic.

As far as some of these women not being focused on until now, AEW has been praised for their focus on the mid card and tag teams, at the end of the day if you only have 2 hours of TV a week, something has got to give. Unless of course they add another show, but we all know how overexposure can effect a product. We’ll see how this plays out, but I have a feeling guys like Dustin, Spears etc. will get cast away just like in WWE, which for the record I am ok with as you just can’t please everyone and I think the woman deserve a platform.

I think a big issue with their women is experience. AEW has a lot of green talent, however the men have a number of established names to lead the way. Their women have zero experienced workers. So it was very difficult to build them up. Honestly they should have had a title tournament for the women’s belt when Dynamite started. Given their roster depth I think a tag team event is a bit much, I’d rather see a number 1 contenders tournament. I definitely don’t think they need women’s tag titles right now. But some focus on a number of women is fine.
