During Saturday’s New Beginning in Osaka card, a video aired with Rey Mysterio announcing he would be wrestling for New Japan Pro Wrestling. Mysterio challenged Jushin Thunder Liger to a match for the “Strong Style Evolved” event on Sunday, March 25th in Long Beach, California.

Liger was part of the Japanese commentary team and accepted the challenge after the video aired.

This is the first match announcement for the sold-out event at the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach.

Mysterio and Liger previously had a singles match back in 1996 at the WCW Starrcade event.

Good for Rey… and this New Japan and WWE free agent crossover sure keeps things interesting.

Is it wrong of me to want to see Suzuki destroy Rey eventually. It seems fun.

I like the idea that there’s a possibility that Jericho and Mysterio can trade appearance months to keep Western fans engaged with people they know until the people they know are guys like LIJ, Okada, Ishii etc…

New Japan aren’t fucking around with this Western expansion.
