Roderick Strong to face Swerve Strickland for the AEW Championship on June 5th Dynamite

I think it’s more the manner in which he received it and why did Tony Kahn immediately grant him the title match when we had Christopher Daniels coming out and saying he was the voice of Tony Kahn

Anyway none of it makes sense. If he had done something heelish to Tony or Christopher Daniels to get the title match that’s one thing. This was basically just idiocy but like we said it was a TV match so who cares. Most of wrestling is idiocy when you think about it.

I didn’t think I entered your thoughts or think your post was directed at me. My post said how the quote from your post could be interpreted and that I wasn’t playing. Others did.@kliq (may the feud never die ). Then I restated to reaffirm and clarify where my criticisms come from. I could expand on the latter part of the final statement, but I’ll refrain - I tend to be a little verbose  . We’re kinda coming at things from different levels and lenses, but that’s all good!

I appreciate your comments.

As @Alex_Patel said wrestling is idiocy and it’s idiocy we all love. I just prefer logically sound storytelling when engaging with this idiotic and preposterous performance art we love, but I don’t actively watch. And I understand this is wrestling and proper logic is never really included in the discussion. LOL.

PS: Your NXT comparison is a false equivalency - the most common mistake made in all things logic (and identifying and picking apart false equivalencies is where arguments come to life). Again, enjoy your show.

I changed my mind because I have nothing better to do at work tomorrow. Put the belt on Roddy tonight. Let’s see some fireworks!

It’ll be funny if Ethan Page and Jordynne Grace help NXT get a higher rating than Dynamite this week.

Regardless of NXT, if Dynamite doesn’t top the above with no NBA or NHL tonight, that’s a problem.

And they have the WORLD CHAMPION wrestling (because someone asked for a title match).

They will beat NXT don’t be ridiculous

AEW Dynamite averaged 787,000 viewers and 335,000 (0.25) in the 18-49 demographic this past Wednesday on TBS. (Credit Pollock’s Friday Update)

That was last week with a hockey match on at the same time.

I don’t know. Dynamite was 787 and .25 last week. Going to be close

This is almost as bad a take as the booking of this match.

With Trick vs Page, there’s no guarantee who wins. There’s a world where you can make the case for either winning.

Gee I wonder who will win Swerve vs Strong?

As @RaceyJaycee said. False equivalency.

I remember Bret Hart defending the title against losers all the time and i always see people talking about loving that. Didnt he defend it against the 123 Kid even?

I see people in here complaining that Swerve is defending against a midcard loser and a guy who just lost and i dont even think thats the issue.

Roderick Strong signed up for a match, that he knew the stipulation for and then proceeded to not get into the match and complain and still get a title shot. Why arent all the other guys who didnt get in, complaining too? It makes no fucking sense. You could have had at least the next 3 or 4 guys complain and then made a match of some sort, build some story.

There is a severe lack of solid story telling lately and a lot of laziness.

I think the difference is Bret was positioned at that time as “the guy”. Bret facing these mid carders felt like a main eventer facing mid carders. With swerve, it feels more like the world title being brought down to the mid card while others are the actual main eventers (like when Rey was champ back in 06).

I mentioned the 123 kid match a few times.

I think the difference is that Bret was a fully made man at that point. He was one of the biggest stars in wrestling and valued as a great in ring wrestling. So I think people just wanted to see him wrestle. Also, we didn’t see the big stars wrestle every week back so you probably weren’t seeing Bret wrestle on TV more than five times a year

I’m not sure swerve is at the same level

You’re both saying pretty much the same thing, which I get, but I still dont see it as a big difference. Its still the world champion, defending against midcards. Only in this case, the times are different. You have 5 hours of TV every week. Guys are seen more often and really, you have a company in which, does anyone feel like “the guy” or a “main event guy”?

Who should Swerve be defending the title against? Unless its a Kenny Omega, Bryan Danielson, Jon Moxley, MJF, who else is there and do those guys really feel like that much of a step up right now? They’ve all feuded or are currently feuding with even bigger mid card losers, than Roderick Strong is portrayed as.

I still think its more of how the match came about, than the quality of the opponent.

Yup it is totally how the match was made that’s the bigger issue.

You have Daniel’s saying he is talking for TK now.

Then you have Roddy yelling at TK who just gives him a title match.

After they did a huge gauntlet to determine the next challenger.

It was weird

I’ve said this multiple times, I don’t really think it’s that big of a deal. I’m just saying to you it’s not the same situation as Bret/Kid.

It could also be because your perception of wrestling has changed since 1994, and you were a child.

Which I think is more the case than anything.

It was also Bret’s first TV match in nearly three months and first televised title defense, per Cagematch (he had a non-title showdown with Kwang in Raw in April). I don’t think that proves anything, just a fact. Maybe just chalk it up to the eras being very different?

Definitely.

I think comparing how TV is produced and presented today vs. 1994, when RAW was one hour and usually had one headlining match (to open the show), with squashes throughout, to even how TV was produced five years later, let alone 30 years later, is next to impossible.
