Spears details how that day went for him.

In October, Shawn Spears and Cassie Lee are heading to Australia to compete for World Series Wrestling. It’ll be Lee’s first match since The IInspiration (Jessica McKay & Cassie Lee) stepped away from in-ring competition in 2022.

This past January, Lee and Spears welcomed their first child into the world. For the latest episode of Lee and McKay’s Off Her Chops podcast, Spears joined the show.

As their conversation rolled on, he told the story of when he tore his calf while training on the day Cassie went into labor. Spears contacted a physical therapist and was informed that he did not need surgery.

The night she (Cassie Lee) went into labor, I tore my calf training in the ring. So I’m at home, I can barely walk and I’m sitting there… So I had my guy come to the school, he’s a physical therapist and he goes, ‘Yeah, it’s torn. It’s probably like a grade two. I don’t think it needs any surgery but we’ll see how it goes’ and I’m like, ‘Oh, great.’ So we get home later that night and just when I think I got it pretty bad, she starts going into labor so, we had kind of planned — had some stuff packed and we had a plan, I’m ready to go but I could barely — I’m literally stick-legged. By the time we got to the hospital, they’re like, ‘Do you need a wheelchair!?’ ‘I’m fine.’ They’re like, ‘Eh, you sure? You look like sh*t,’ and we had to go up and down and there’s hallways and all that kind of stuff.

Spears is a member of the AEW talent roster. His most recent match for the company was at Battle of the Belts VII in July. He regularly wrestles on the independent scene and runs Flatbacks Wrestling School with Tyler Breeze.
