Heyman’s Hustle

SmackDown kicked off with Paul Heyman in the ring saying that Jimmy Uso singlehandedly cost Jey Uso and Cody Rhodes the WWE Undisputed Tag Team Championships on Raw. Heyman then said that the LA Times broke the news earlier today that Roman Reigns will defend his title on November 4th at Crown Jewel against LA Knight, whom he is a big fan of. Knight’s music then hit to an enormous pop.

Knight grabbed the mic from Heyman, got into his face, and demanded Roman Reigns come out to the ring now. Reigns didn’t oblige and Heyman attempted to escape the ring multiple times but Knight kept him face-to-face and told him that he and Roman would be having a contract signing next week.

.@RealLAKnight is NOT backing down.

Montez Ford vs. Santos Escobar

Backstage, Bobby Lashley was hyping up Montez Ford as we learn that up next would be Ford vs. the LWO’s Santos Escobar. Escobar was accompanied by Cruz del Toro and Joaquin Wilde but not Rey Mysterio who commentary noted was going to be confronted by Logan Paul later tonight. Bobby Lashley walked out with the Profits but left Dawkins to corner for Ford and was shown watching the match from the back. Ford and Escobar had a competitive match in front of a largely indifferent-sounding crowd. Angelo Dawkins then rammed Escobar into the post behind the referee’s back causing a melee to occur on the outside with the LWO with Escobar hitting a big boot on Dawkins. Escobar returned to the ring only to be rolled up by Ford who got the three count with a handful of tights.

After the match, the Profits started beating down Escobar only to have Carlito sprint out with a chair to run them off. After the break, Mysterio thanked Carlito for helping Escobar as he was busy with Logan Paul. Zelina Vega asked if he wanted the LWO’s backup but he politely declined.

Pretty Deadly Celebrates

A video was shown of Pretty Deadly celebrating last week’s win with pedicures and massages. The Brawling Brutes then appeared and attacked Pretty Deadly, shoving their faces into their foot baths. Ridge Holland then exclaimed that he was parched and asked Butch to go for a pint.

Bad Bunny on SNL

A promo was shown promoting Bad Bunny as the host and musical guest for SNL this week. If you haven’t seen it, it’s worth a watch as Bunny did it fully in a WWE-style promo.

Bloodline / Cena Stings

Backstage “Jim” Uso was boasting to Paul Heyman and Solo Sikoa about what he did on Raw this past week using his ongoing odd football analogies. Paul Heyman tried to say that he talked about it in the ring but Jimmy wasn’t hearing him. Suddenly Heyman pointed to the TV and said “Look who’s here” as John Cena appeared seemingly heading to the ring. Strangely, for US viewers we were thrust right into a Honda commercial which Cena does the voiceover for.

After the break, Cena came down to the ring and noted that SmackDown had sold out in San Antonio. Cena said that it had been a rough day and he had been hit with some harsh truths today. Cena noted that Roman Reigns is now at 1,138 days as champion but it had been 2,002 days since Cena had won a televised singles match with his last win in 2018. He then channeled Sting’s promo from this past Wednesday and said “I’ve been talking a lot about retirement and it’s been a long time since I’ve had a win”. In another echo of Dynamite, the crowd responded with “You still got it” chants.

Suddenly Cena got hyped up saying that he can still bring it and the time is now to turn the math around. He then said it would be a bad night for the next idiot to walk through the curtain. Solo Sikoa came out and the two started brawling. Jimmy Uso quickly ran out and garnered the numbers advantage. Suddenly, a masked figure pulled Jimmy out of the ring and revealed himself to be “Main Event” Jey Uso. The Usos then brawled at ringside until security finally pulled them apart. Back in the ring, Cena avoided the Samoan Spike and hit the Attitude Adjustment although no official match ever began.

Backstage, Nick Aldis fined Jey Uso $10,000 for getting involved with Jimmy Uso. For some reason, Adam Pearce was there as well and demanded that Aldis fine Jimmy as well. Aldis told security to escort both Jey and Adam Pearce from the building, to which Pearce replied “Let the games begin” seemingly starting the build to “brand warfare” at Survivor Series.

Fyre/Dawn

Another brief “The Unholy Union” Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn promo package was shown with the pair telling Chelsea Green and Piper Niven “See you soon!”.

Logan Paul

Headlines and “highlights” of Logan Paul vs. Dillon Danis were shown as they cut to Paul arriving at the arena. Paul came down to the ring and said that just six days ago he was in England beating the living daylights out of a scumbag. He then said it was a pathetic excuse for a fight and a fighter and he should have known if he wanted real competition he could have had another WWE match. Paul then said he wasn’t there for Mysterio as he had already beaten him in his first-ever WWE match, back when Dominik was still his son and Roman Reigns actually showed up to wrestle. Paul said Rey did have something he needed and that was the United States Championship.

— WWE on FOX (@WWEonFOX) October 21, 2023

Rey Mysterio then came out and said Logan reminded him of Dominik and he needed some humbling but he wouldn’t hesitate like he did with Dom. Mysterio then agreed to a match at Crown Jewel. Paul then wished Mysterio good luck and the two shared a slow handshake.

Waller & Theory vs. Grimes & Lee

Our second match of the night saw Grayson Waller & Austin Theory taking on Cameron Grimes & Dragon Lee. The finish saw Dragon Lee get thrown into the timekeeper’s area as Austin Theory hit the A-Town Down on Grimes for the victory.

“Exclusive” Interview with Kevin Owens

Cathy Kelley interviewed Kevin Owens and he was asked about how he felt being separated from Sami Zayn. Owens said it didn’t feel great especially after not getting another shot at the tag titles but he was happy to have a clean slate on SmackDown. Owens then brought up his history with The Bloodline and pointed out he was wearing a Yokozuna shirt which he said was not a coincidence. Owens then asked Kelley who she wanted to punch and singled out Grayson Waller and Austin Theory for having punchable faces.

WWE Women’s Championship: IYO Sky vs. Charlotte Flair

The match began and IYO Sky immediately rolled out of the ring and the show went to commercial. As we returned from break, the announce team hammered home the idea that Charlotte was in search of her fifteenth championship reign as she was dominating Sky until Bayley distracted her effectively turning the tide. Charlotte then hit a unique counter leading into another commercial.

IYO Sky attempted the moonsault but got nailed by Flair’s feet followed by a quick spear but Bayley was able to move IYO’s leg onto the rope.

Flair then went after Bayley and threw her across the announce table. Meanwhile, Charlotte went for another spear on Sky but Dakota Kai had slyly passed her the Championship which knocked Flair out. Damage CTRL was beating down Flair when Bianca Belair returned taking out Bayley and hitting her with the KOD.
