Sting’s retirement match will be part of AEW Revolution at the Greensboro Coliseum in North Carolina on Sunday, March 3rd, 2024.

The date and location were announced in a backstage segment during Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite.

The venue is a very special one for Sting.

It was the scene of the famous 1988 match between Sting and Ric Flair for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. The match went to a 45-minute commercial-free draw in the main event of the first-ever Clash of the Champions event.

The first Clash of the Champions was a television special that Jim Crockett Promotions ran against WrestleMania IV.

Tony Schiavone was on commentary that night. On Wednesday’s edition of Dynamite, he made the announcement, flanked by both Sting and Flair.

Perfect setting. Now give me a worthwhile build!

My thought is still that he should do the honors to heel Darby… except I don’t know if Darby can be a heel. He’s beloved by the AEW fans and has the RVD style where his signature moves are always going to get baby face pops.

And if you really want to pay homage to Sting’s career, then Ric Flair needs to turn on him at some point between now and March.

Honestly, fully expecting a Flair turn. It absolutely needs to happen to pay tribute to their history.

Give me a heel Hangman or Malaki Black in that spot. But also get Ric Flair off TV. Beyond sad

Fully agree re: Darby as the top choice, but doubt it’s happening. That’d make him a mega heel, then he presumably beats Sting, then the put over mega heel immediately does the dastardly act of… climbing Everest for six weeks.
