Super Muñeco, a popular Luchador aimed at children, has died at the age of 59 following his health complications.

Muneco did not start wrestling until just before his 20th birthday in 1982 and became a memorable character with his clown persona.

He began his career as Sanguinario Jr., in honor of his father before adopting the persona that he will be forever be remembered by.

The Trios unit of Super Muñeco, Super Ratón, and Super Pinochio comprised Trio Fantastia and was a memorable act in Mexico.

Throughout his career, he was involved in countless matches with his mask and the opponent’s hair or mask on the line. Last week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted that he retained his mask in over 100 matches, which might be the second most of all-time. He put his mask against the hair of Scorpio Jr. as recently as October 2012 with Muñeco prevailing.

He moved to AAA in 1992 and became Mexican National Trios champions alongside El Hijo del Santo and Angel Azteca in May 1994 defeating Los Payasos of Coco Amarillo, Coco Azul & Coco Rojo in Juarez. The trio lost the titles to the former champions later that year but Muñeco had a second run with the titles in April 1995 teaming with Octagon & Rey Mysterio Jr. when they defeated Tony Arce, Rocco Valente & Vulcano.

His in-ring career spanned 37 years with his final match listed on December 21, 2019, teaming with Huracan Ramirez Jr. & Ultimo Lagendario against Luzbel Jr., Mosca & Vortize.

Muñeco had been hospitalized recently but the official cause of death has not been revealed yet.

We send our condolences to his family and friends.
