HOGAN & BLACKTOP BULLY JOIN WCW

WCW have made a massive coup with the signing of the outgoing WWF World & Intercontinental Champions, Hulk Hogan and Barry Darsow.

Hogan will wrestle under his Hulkster moniker while the former Smash is being repackaged as the Blacktop Bully. There were talks of a repossession officer but that was quickly laughed out of the building.

What is the reason for this?

Real life. Hogan was heavily marketed as ‘The Hulkster’ throughout his early WCW run.

This is turning into a wrestling history lesson. I dont remember that at all.

They definitely kept calling him Hulk Hogan, but his shirts no longer were try WWF Hulkamania style shirt, and they went with “Hulkster” on a lot of stuff.

Plus, Marvel did own “Hulk” for years.

Didn’t mean to suggest he wasn’t called ‘Hulk Hogan’ but yeah ‘Hulkster’ appeared on all the gear rather than Hulkamania/Hulk Rules etc.

WCW have put the title on Hulk Hogan as he defeated The Ultimate Warrior at the most recent Clash of the Champions.

This takes the wind out of the sails of The Ultimate Warrior’s title win which saw him defeat perrenial champion Ric Flair in consecutive contests. WCW has gone all-in with Hogan but have they left anyone to realistically feud with him?

RICK RUDE RETIRES

In what’s been said to have been a long time coming, Rick Rude has called it a career in WCW. His recent tag team with Dirty Dick Slater was a coping mechanism but Rude says he can no longer compete in professional wrestling.

Rude retires a former WWF Intercontinental Champion and a former WWF World Heavyweight Champion. He never came close to the same level of success in WCW though and its said that their higher ups squandered his potential at the feet of yet another Nikita Koloff/Ric Flair feud.

Rick Rude is only 37 years old.

Took me a bit to catch up but what a great read. I love how some get pushes they never got and the movement that never happened happening and others not moving at all.

LOTS OF MOVEMENT

While I’m not sure any of this is super earth shattering, there has been a fair bit of movement in recent days, including:

  • Macho Man Randy Savage has returned from injury but has only 1 month left on his WWF deal
  • Bam Bam Bigelow has jumped from WWF to WCW
  • Honky Tonk Man has jumped from WCW to WWF
  • Eddie Gilbert has signed a 1 year deal with the WWF
  • Razor Ramon and Scotty Flamingo have been thrown into a tag team
  • 2 Cold Scorpio def. Sweet Stan Lane for the WCW U.S. Title at Clash of the Champions XXIX

I’m all in on Main Event Nailz!

And I know this is a fantasy timeline, but can we still get Chuck Norris as ringside enforcer?
