WWF ARMAGEDDON RESULTS - DECEMBER 10, 2000

  • Randy Savage def. Stone Cold Steve Austin (c), Chris Benoit, The Rock, Ken Shamrock and Undertaker in a Hell in a Cell match when Savage pinned Undertaker
    see notes
  • X-Pac (c) def. Billy Gunn to retain the WWF Intercontinental Championship
  • Mankind def… Ravishing Rick Rude in a Street Fight
  • T&A (c) def. The APA, D’Lo & Razor and The Radicalz to retain the WWF Tag Team Titles when Test pinned D’Lo
  • Raven went over Kane strong
  • Al Snow def Ludwig Borga
  • Steve Blackman def. Crash Holly
  • Val Venis def. Eddie Guerrero (c) to win the WWF Hardcore Championship

NOTES

  • Rock and Savage were left alone in the ring after the match and Rock grabbed the title from the referee, approached Savage, dropped to a knee and handed the title to Savage
  • Savage accepted the title, pulled The Rock up to his feet and the two men embraced. Rock then lifted Savage’s hand before giving him the ring
  • 8 months after their WrestleMania classic in MSG, Randy Savage has gone from the man who couldn’t win the big one to winning the biggest Hell in a Cell ever and for the first time ever, a world champion.
  • Raven also cut a scathing shoot promo about Scotty Flamingo being dead before he made short work of Kane. The announcers were asking if Kane came back from his own Hell in a Cell match too soon.

  • Vampiro said he understood and the two men embraced and then Vampiro kneed Sting low and kept shouting “why do you wanna leave me?”
  • Sting came back the next week and said some dreams can wait. Instead he’s going to teach his little brother a lesson. You wanna make a name off of me, that’s fine. But do it against me 1-on-1 at Starrrrcadddde!

This is going to require a little more explanation. Following along in the simulation it seemed like Rock and Savage had gone from rivals of different generations to being respectful of each other. But nothing about Rock being subservient to Savage. And there’s nothing in real life that happened quite like that. So what are you drawing inspiration from that Rock would give away a title to anybody?

I love that this triple ladder match is quite possibly a fixed point in time chefs kiss

WrestleMania 2000 - the setup for their generational title match was that they had both been excluded from the big one. Here Rock is, with his chance to finally win it but he’s bested by perhaps the greatest to never hold a world title. The reason for their lights out classic at Wrestlemania 2000.

I don’t take dropping a knee as a sign of subservience but rather humility. It’s not done in defeat but in deference. Outside of that, I’m borrowing a bit from Piper/Hart at WM VIII.

Ahh okay. Thanks for the explanation. I misunderstood. I thought basically Rock won the match and handed Savage the title. Not that it happened after the match where Savage won. That makes a lot more sense.

A FLURRY OF ACTIVITY TO START THE YEAR

  • In the wake of Haku re-emerging in the Royal Rumble, there is a ton of movement back and forth across the trenches in wrestling’s power struggle
  • The WWF is clearly the front runner in all things star power and are rumoured to have collected some more firepower with the first shot being the return of Sid on Raw the night after The Royal Rumble. This was then followed by The Big Show returning from a conditioning stint at Ohio Valley Wrestling
  • WCW returned with a shot of their own with Cactus Jack returning on Thunder
  • Road Dogg has been released from his WWF contract. We’re hearing things about drugs playing a factor. Where this puts K-Kwik in the grand scheme of things is unsure
  • We’re hearing there are grumblings at AOL Time Warner regarding the level of resources headed to WCW. Eric Bischoff is said to be maneuvering behind the scenes to try and assuage any fears by the corporate executives
  • Chris Benoit put in a starmaking performance at the Rumble and his never-ending feud with Steve Austin has fully reversed. After 4 months or so of bumping for Austin across the country it seems that Benoit is now getting the upper hand on TV and on the live circuit
  • To that end, Chris Benoit now holds the longest time in a Royal Rumble match, besting Yokozuna’s winning time from 1995.
  • The WWF have brought back the WWF Women’s championship with means for a Women’s Championship match at WrestleMania. Ivory won a tournament on the house circuit with her RTC running buddies helping make that a certainty

Am I being thick…who won the Royal Rumble? Sorry if it’s in the video… Could we have an update on the rosters at some point. Or just the main players. I’m confused whose where
