The main event for New Japan’s first of two Tokyo Dome cards is set following the King of Pro Wrestling card from Sumo Hall on Monday.
In the main event of the show, Kazuchika Okada pinned Sanada after a variation of a Michinoku Driver followed by the match-ending Rainmaker. The 37-minute match saw Okada increase his singles record of 7-1 against Sanada, who pinned Okada in their G1 Climax match in Osaka this past August to set up Okada’s final title defense of 2019.
Earlier in the night, Kota Ibushi pinned EVIL after hitting the Kamigoye twice and holding onto his Wrestle Kingdom title shot that he earned by winning the G1 in August.
Okada and Ibushi had a faceoff inside the ring to close the show and it was confirmed they will headline the Tokyo Dome on January 4th.
It is unknown what will headline on January 5th but the dominant story is the number of wrestlers aiming to become double champions by winning the IWGP and Intercontinental titles with the idea that the two champions would square off on the second night.
A Wrestle Kingdom press conference will be held later tonight at 2 am eastern on New Japan World.
