A new title for the Raw women’s division.

Prior to Monday Night Raw going live on USA Network from Glendale, Arizona, General Manager Adam Pearce took to the ring to unveil the Women’s Intercontinental Championship.

He stated that a tournament will be held to determine the champion and that’ll start on the 12/2 Raw.

On the SmackDown side, the brand added a Women’s United States Championship. A tournament is ongoing and the winner will be crowned at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 14th.

15 years from now, a promotion will be based around the “gimmick” of only having one singles title. A World Title, if you will. The smarks will think it’s a revolutionary idea.

WWE now has more women’s titles across all its brands than AEW does across theirs (AEW and ROH). Between these two companies and New Japan, The Too Many Titles Issue is universal (championship) across all of wrestling.

They’ve managed to put together a tournament with twelve women for the U.S. Title on Smackdown, so they can definitely do the same for Raw.

Definitely seems like there are too many titles based on the women’s roster size, however for gender equality which I am very much for, the women should have the same amount of titles to “win” as the men. The undercard women do seem like they have nothing to fight for sometimes, so hopefully this can give the mid card a boost.

I just hope they don’t add a second tag title as they barely have enough teams for one set.

And if it’s not about a title, it’s about a bracelet, jacket, ulafala, ring, or some other avatar.

Not to mention that half the time, when they want to build a title challenger, they go straight to “why don’t we have him beat the champion in a match that’s not for the championship?”

Am I out of touch for wanting to see two top challengers fight with the winner perhaps getting a title shot as a reward? Or are we too stupid to get invested if wrestlers aren’t all chasing little trinkets like Pokémon?

Stupid and worthless. WWE is really gone downhill I feel since SS.

I still think WWE would work better with one main champion who can appear on both shows and then the IC/US are the regular main eventers

The brand split is basically over now anyways. But yeah, way too many titles. They can’t even book a proper tag title for men or women.

I think they did that for a brief moment in time before the Universal Championship… except the world champion was usually Brock so nobody noticed because he was never on regular TV anyway.

I think I prefer brands having their own championships. I think you create too much of a bottleneck if the championship is dual brand. I would imagine something like Cody chasing Roman for the title would feel like a total slog when you got guys like Gunther waiting in the wings and too big for the Intercontinental Championship.

I’ve never really been too bothered by the amount of titles in wrestling, especially since AEW/WWE’s rosters are so big, it’s just a matter of keeping them busy. AEW’s trios or WWE’s womens tag belts are cold but it’s more of a booking problem then a conceptual one IMO.
