Wanted to get people’s thoughts on this weekend’s UFC event. Top to bottom this looks like one of the best cards of the year and of course features CM Punk so I think a lot of people here might be more interested than usual.
Personally I’m really looking forward to the main event. Whitaker has looked incredible but coming back so soon after such a serious injury is concerning. Romero is always exciting and I do think if he can manage the 5 rounds a little better he’s got a good chance in this rematch.

On paper I’d say UFC 225 is one of the most talent stacked cards of all time. Both the fightpass prelims and the FS1 prelims look like they could be the main card for a fight night!
- I see Whittaker Romero going down similar to the first fight. History has shown that when two men rematch and the younger man won the first fight, the result of the second is usually the same. Yoel has always had issues managing his cardio, and I’m not sure at his current age that his cardio is a problem he’s going to be able to fix.
- RDA is standing near sacred ground. Beating Colby for the interim title will make him just a fight away from joining the elite crew of 2 division champs. I think he gets it done.
- CM Punk vs Mike Jackson is an insane fight to have on the PPV portion of a card this stacked, but hopefully it adds some buys. The fact that Punk spent the past week in court, instead of in fight camp makes me very hesitant to pick him in this one.
- Alistair Overeem is the most skilled striker, and most well rounded fighter in the heavyweight division. On paper, he should make easy work of blaydes. But, Alistar has a tendency to lose every fight he’s the betting favourite in, so Blaydes by seconds round KO.
- Crazy that a high level fight like Benavidez vs Pettis is on the fight pass prelims. I think Joseph Benavidez is the most talented fighter to never win a UFC title, and I think he gets it done easily Saturday.
- As far as the other fights, I would put my money on Holm, Tuivasa, Gadelha, Lamas and Olivera. Also it’s sad to see how far Rashad Evans has fallen. Hope he gets a nice win.
It should be a great card. They really went all out for this one, and 226 looks equally as good on paper so I think it’s a great time to be a fight fan.
I do agree that most rematches go the way of the first but there are a couple items that I mentioned that make this a little more interesting. First, the fact that Whitaker is coming off such a brutal injury and it seems rather quick raises a lot of questions. Also, the last fight was the first and only 5 rounder of Yoel’s career. I suspect he should be able to make adjustments to improve his output in the later rounds. Even if this one goes the way of the first I think it will actually be closer.
Win or lose Overeem is always in entertaining fights so I suspect this will be no different so I’m looking forward to that as well.
I love Overeem, but man he doesn’t make it easy to be a fan lol. Everytime he fights you know it can be lights out at any second. He’s always been that way, so you think I’d get used to it, but I feel like it gets harder to see these guys get KO’d with age. The Ngannou and Stipe finishes were brutal.
You gotta think that if this event wasn’t in Chicago, CM Punk would have pulled out of this event.
This fight is one to stay away from (Betting wise) you think that Jackson is being set up to be the fall guy, however CM Punk has got to be distracted.
