WWE has revealed that Roman Reigns will have his first match back this Sunday at WWE Payback in a Triple Threat Match for the WWE Universal title.
The news was announced at the beginning of Monday Night Raw stating that new Universal Champion The Fiend Bray Wyatt will defend the title against Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman in a Triple Threat Match at WWE Payback on Sunday.
There will be a contract signing involving the three later this week on Friday Night SmackDown.
This will be Reigns’ first match since March prior to his sabbatical during the pandemic following the birth of his twins. Reigns appeared on one empty arena edition of SmackDown for a contract signing with Bill Goldberg, before removing himself from the WrestleMania tapings and subsequent shows.
Reigns returned at the conclusion of the Universal title match at SummerSlam attacking new champion The Fiend as well as Strowman to end the show.
Below is the current line-up for WWE Payback this Sunday:
*WWE Universal Championship: The Fiend Bray Wyatt (champion) vs. Roman Reigns vs. Braun Strowman
*WWE Women’s Tag Titles: Sasha Banks & Bayley (champions) vs. Shayna Baszler & Nia Jax
*WWE United States Championship: Apollo Crews (champion) vs. Bobby Lashley
*Randy Orton vs. Keith Lee
They got me. I do not like these 3 guys in ring but I cannot say no to a triple threat. I have never seen a bad one. You can fact check me.
This might be a post that deserves to be in the unpopular opinion thread. My impression is that most people aren’t fans of triple threat matches. Whereas I agree with you that 3 way matches are great and WWE in particular have really mastered booking of them to keep the energy high throughout the match.
WWE Triple Threat matches are always the same. 3 people start, one leaves the ring, two fight, one saves the pinfall, one person gets totally destroyed, the destroyed person comes back in the end to claim the victory. Falling asleeeeeep
They definitely had a stretch where they overdid the triple threat match which made the match seem less special, especially when someone felt forced in. But with that said, I agree. WWE Triple threat matches usually don’t disappoint in ring. HHH vs Shawn vs Benoit at WM20 is still one of my favorite matches of all time.
My favourite Carmella and Alexa match was a triple threat that no one remembers with Charlotte. I’m not going to list all of them including NXT but yeah, I would say they are usually good or great.
