The WWE held a press conference Thursday morning to formally announce that WrestleMania 36 would take place from Tampa, Florida.

The show will take place on Sunday, April 5th, 2020 at Raymond James Stadium, the home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the NFL. The stadium has previously hosted the Super Bowl in 2001 and 2009 and will host it again in 2021.

In the press release, they noted that in addition to WrestleMania, there would be four of live events with SmackDown Live (which will be airing on Fox), the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony, NXT TakeOver, and Monday Night Raw.

Hulk Hogan started the press conference and discussed WrestleMania coming to his hometown and his matches with Andre the Giant and The Rock at past WrestleMania events.

WWE’s Executive VP of special events John Saboor, Hillsborough County Commissioner Ken Hagan, Stephanie McMahon-Levesque, Roman Reigns, Titus O’Neil, Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn, Charlotte Flair, and Paul Levesque were among the speakers.

This will be the fourth time that the state of Florida has hosted WrestleMania and the first time in Tampa.

Tampa Bay makes sense because the weather is desirable and it’s close in proximity to the NXT Performance Center.

Being Midwest based, I was hoping they would decide on Minneapolis or Detroit (they both have indoor arenas so you would not need to worry about weather). It seems a lot of these Wrestlemania events are biased towards the East Coast (WM 31 being an exception).

Nashville would be cool. You could do a lot with that.

They’re really going to milk Roman’s condition for as much PR as possible aren’t they? Making people initially think it was a lot worse than it actually was seems to have more than just storyline benefits for the WWE.
