Earlier this month, New Japan Pro-Wrestling announced that IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion Yoshinobu Kanemaru suffered a right knee injury and would be missing a then-forthcoming Road to Power Struggle event. In an update on the situation, Kanemaru’s knee injury will prevent him from competing in the 2020 Best of the Super Juniors tournament. Replacing Kanemaru will be young lion Yuya Uemura. Below is the official announcement by way of NJPW1972.com:

As a result of a knee injury, Yoshinobu Kanemaru will be unable to compete in Best of the Super Jr. 27. We apologise to fans who were looking forward to seeing Kanemaru wrestle, and appreciate your understanding.

Yuya Uemura will be competing in place of Kanemaru on the tour, and cards have been altered accordingly. Please check the event schedule for more information.

We with Kanemaru well in his recovery.

The Best of the Super Juniors is kicking off this weekend with Hiromu Takahashi versus Taiji Ishimori headlining the B.O.S.J. portion of the show. B.O.S.J. is running at the same time as World Tag League.

On night one in Aichi, Kanemaru was scheduled to take on Master Wato. Here are the competitors in this year’s Best of the Super Juniors:

  • Taiji Ishimori
  • El Desperado
  • Yuya Uemura
  • Hiromu Takahashi
  • Ryusuke Taguchi
  • Master Wato
  • SHO
  • Robbie Eagles
  • BUSHI
  • DOUKI

Injuries always suck, but I’m very happy for Yuya Uemura getting the spot.
